Re: Should Queen Lizzie be the last in the Game of Royals?

Not really but it seems I have to justify my opinion a lot on here. An outsider within an out group it seems. I hope you don't feel that badly, I think of you as one of the gang! Anyone who contributes in a civil, coherent way should be welcome. If we all agreed there would be no posting, no...

Re: Should Queen Lizzie be the last in the Game of Royals?

He did abdicate but he did so because his choice of consort was not conforming to the rules / practises of the day. He had the choice and chose the option that the establishment couldn't accept so he got manoeuvred out. IMHO skipping Charles isn't because of any rules or practises of the day being ...

Re: Should Queen Lizzie be the last in the Game of Royals?

Unless he's died first he's next in line for a full term (no abdication) or nobody is. That's my strong view on monarchy. It has no more value without mother to son then later on to grandson. Surely the line stopped with Edward VII then, in your view? or Harold of Wessex There's some who think that...

You are right, not a very strong phrase, and only the one? Seems a weak foundation for your inference about sneaking regard.

Re: Prince Wlliam praises the NHS that he probably never uses?

I wonder whether you're kind of closet republicans the way you use insulting names / phrases for the young royals but refrain from making similar comments about the Queen. Afterall of the younger Royals are freeloading on the country the Queen is too surely? Is there a kind of respect to the queen ...

Re: Prince Wlliam praises the NHS that he probably never uses?

We could have an Irish type presidency, with presidents like Mary Robinson. Can you name the current one? He is Michael Higgins and his job is mainly ceremonial. Has he had vast wealth poured on him (from taxpayer money)? Given loads of palaces and castles? etc. Ian Or, how much revenue does he bri...

Re: Welcome to cycle heaven: why we moved our family to the Netherlands

Are you in Fenland, South Holland or East Cambridgeshire, perhaps? I think cycling levels are lower in those districts where cycling infrastructure (of all types, not only cycleways) ranges from non-existent to pathetically substandard than in the others where it's merely slightly substandard (West...

Re: Prince Wlliam praises the NHS that he probably never uses?

So that is what the Windsors are for? A tourist attraction? Windsor Castle is 24th on the list of tourist attractions, behind Chester Zoo, Stonehenge and Roman Bath. The evidence for the monarchy as a tourist attraction is sketchy, though often asserted. The Windsors cost £300m+ p.a. We spend millio...

Re: Prince Wlliam praises the NHS that he probably never uses?

maybe but you feel less intimidated by a president than a king/queen? and as the yanks have found out you can shoot presidents, and send them to prison ( I think at the moment a former president of France is being investigated? can you imagine charley boy being sent to prison? ) President is clearl...

Re: Welcome to cycle heaven: why we moved our family to the Netherlands

Interestingly a report released by University of Westminster reported in the Times 17-5-18 indicates that British Cyclists were 4 times more likely to be killed as those in the Netherlands, wonder why. The figures I found were that in 2009 the rate in the Netherlands was 9 deaths per billion Kilome...
