Re: Old Skool

Unlike old-type helmets, modern ones really aren't hot to wear. I've honestly never seen why anyone would have a problem wearing one. Where I can see a practical objection is that they are a nuisance to cart around when you're off the bike. For people doing short slow runs on decent road surfaces, o...

Re: Harry is marrying Ms Merkel?

Boris Johnson was (is?) a dual US/UK national, and then he found out the tax implications..... If you are a US citizen, dual or otherwise, you have to pay US taxes, less what you have paid where you live if you are living abroad- something the UK should copy. US taxes on some things (like high-end p...

Re: Tower Block Disaster

Check out what the rich pay in council tax in that borough, and compare it with yours. A band D house round here, probably worth about 200-250 grand (unfashionable part of the Midlands, not at all wealthy) pays circa £1,640, which is about the same as the largest property in the Kensington and Chels...

Re: Is Trump Mad?

I am not making a diagnosis either, just a personal judgement (for which the O.P. asked). I base it on observation of his thoughts, of which we see plenty, not least in the form of tweets, and the judgement of those who have been close to him, such as Tillerson, who called him a f... moron. Good jo...

Re: Is Trump Mad?

One of his many issues is that he just loves being the centre of attention. Like at the moment he's loving getting all these world leaders jetting over to plead with him not to scrap the Iran deal. It does not matter to him if it's good or bad, just as long as everybody is talking about him. And he...

Re: Can you swim?

Where I lived as a kid in the 1960s all kids in the borough learned to swim at least 2 lengths, and most of us four or a lot more, when at primary school except those with medical exemptions. And we all did the Water Safety badge. This was because of the local canal, and there being lots of mill lo...

Re: Self driving car kills pedestrian.

I'm all for new technology when it works, but so far it looks to me like self-driving cars ought to be banned for good. Firstly, it isn't yet anything like good enough for the job, and secondly, it's clear that even at this early stage it's clear that humans are incapable of paying attention when it...

Re: So Harry is marrying Ms Merkel?

I hope she appreciates how hard it is to get a UK residence permit (even if married to a British Citizen), particularly if there are no employment intentions and even harder is the plan is to be a burden on the state and live of the state - particularly now we (as a nation) seem to have decided to ...

And now the latest - London is a "war zone" courtesy of the Ginger Monster... Ah well - he'd better not come then. Wouldn't want that precious ginger pate to be scalped by a flying kitchen knife, now, would we? On the other hand, if he does show up, he can be assured of a specially ...

Re: Data Retrieval

If you'd have read my post you'd have seen we've had other problems with the older Macbook pro the new one replaces. My six year old laptop, (Lenovo £ 299) has never had any problems. After 6 years the battery is U/S but a minute to change and £39 for a new one. No, I'm not condemning a company for...

Re: Data Retrieval

What I take from this is that you need to store as little as possible on any computer. Excellent mantra. Why computers have such huge capacity hard drives, I don't know. Our iMac originally had 1Tb, and since that packed up, I fitted a 500Gb one instead, and it still hasn't consumed a quarter of it...

Re: Use your LBS?

I use my LBS. I bought my bike there, and have it serviced once a year there. They have always done a 100% job for me. They are reluctant to service bikes they haven't built. I understand that this annoys some people, but their workshop is always very busy and they see it as their duty to look after...

Re: The Disgusting thread:Can you think of anything more revolting?

Perhaps the bits of berg can be redistributed amongst the inhabitants of the boroughs feeding the blocker sewers . . . . . etc. ? or sell it to tourists - in a sealed glass canister of course. Though would be interesting to know what US customs would make of it  Given the contents, it sounds l...

well not much to choose between any of them? so Corbyn wants Incontrovertible proof that the Russians tried to nerve gas the father and duaghter Skripals? No wonder his popularity is plummeting.
