Re: gender issues

The Chat Noir was a nightclub in Paris.
According to Wiki it operated from 1881-97.
The design was by Steinlen (of 'Steinlen's Cats' fame) so you should be safe with it. Unless the OH disapproves of Paris nightclubs!

Re: Awful braking ability after expensive bicycle fitting

My crosstops are so fierce that I'd say they probably exerted more force than the drop levers. If I need to brake hard and fast, I actually prefer to go for the crosstops. When I got this bike, the LBS warned me on my ride home not to pull the crosstops hard, as if they were extension levers (which ...

Re: Awful braking ability after expensive bicycle fitting

Definitely worth looking at alternative bar shapes. I have smallish hands, my LBS were every careful to choose suitable bars and set the gear/brake levers at such an angle and in such a place that I could reach them from wherever my hands might be. I also had mountain bike style cross-top levers fit...

Re: Do you "read" enough?

I read too much. And not always the right things - I have a pile of 'work reading' I am behind with, but wasted both work time and work reading time yesterday reading the collected letters of an 18th C novelist. The penalty of being self-employed. Which reminds me, time I went back to work, co...

Re: Vaping - Horrible Smell

I suspect the better-off just order their supplies online, hence fewer vaping shops in posher areas. I think vaping is revolting and anti-social. If I eat chocolate, I don't force it down the throats of everyone else present. And quite apart from the health aspects of having to inhale other people's...

Re: Left Hook by an e-bike

I'm all for ebikes, though I don't have/want one myself, but I'm not sure all of them have their speed limiters set where they should be- that may explain the op's problem. It's also the case that when a lot of middle and late-middle aged blokes became able to afford the motorbike they had always wa...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

It was presented to the pubic as simple by the leave campaign when it is not simple. That was the biggest lie of all. And anyone who believed that leaving a trading bloc like the EU was simple when they could not, by definition, have known anything about what they were talking/voting about and could...

Re: Over 55, are you fit?

I did it in under 10s without feeling I was putting in much of an effort, and am female and just in the 55 demographic, but as I'm not all that fit I suspect it's just because I'm small and it must be easier for small people. Either that, or I must have been doing it wrong, though I follwed the inst...

Re: Cycling to lose weight

You would not lose that as muscle loss after being ill for a few days, likely that is all water loss Possibly. But not necessarily. I lost 3/4 of a stone during 5 days in hospital for surgery (which didn't take out anything of any weight, and I'd had before without losing any weight). I was very we...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

One positive aspect to Brexit seems that despite having been granted their wildest dream, the Conservative Party seem to be continuing to push themselves to self destruction. We now even have one of the favourite's to replace May accusing the Civil Service en-mass (or at least one department) of br...

Re: Urinary problems

I'm getting on okay with my Diva. It's very much harder than any saddle I've had before, and I did wonder at first if that would be a problem, but I have been taking it carefully, with 'not-too-long rides' to build up. Due to flooding I had to add 10 miles onto an already longer-than-usual ride this...

I've always really wanted this one https://quirkyjerseys.com/products/tournee-du-chat-noir-women-cycling-jersey Oooooh - I love that Chat Noir one! Sizing does seem a bit odd, though. The notes on the sizing chart don't exactly help: Note: the size chart for reference only! Hand there will be a 2-3...
