Re: Spa Cycles (Harrogate)

I am fairly local to spa so go in quite often. It seems the more you go in the better they get.Recently I have had exceptional service and they have gone out of their way to help. Not allways been the case in the past.Like everywhere else thay have staff shortages due to this damned virus. My daughter...

Re: white mudguards

spa cycles had a box of them without fittings dirt cheap. You would have to ring them to check fit

Re: Rigida Sputnik or Mavic A319

They stopped using the wear indicator a couple of years ago on 319 rims. When the rim had worn out a hole appeared in the braking surface. You really need to keep a check with verniers now.One caution.I am just about to change mine due to spoke hole cracking on the drive side. First set I have had th...

Raleigh pro track bike colour

Hi. Have aquired a raleigh pro track frame from 1975. The bike came to me as a poyner in a pearl and rust finish. As has been said poyners bought most of their frames in so when you get one you need to turn detective to sort out what you have bought. To be honest it was a lot of fun doing it .It has a...

Montane Photon. Good or Bad ? Now sorted thank you.

Hi due to the wonderful summer and my old jacket getting a bit leaky I have been looking for a new one. Quite fancy the Montane Photon due to the waterproof and breathability claims.Thing is I cant seem to find any decent reviews and there is even a rumour that it has been discontinued. Any of you g...

Re: Rigida Sputnik or Mavic A319

I have Mavic A 319 on our tandem and I was told there is a wear indicator built in.However looking at re building the rear wheel to go from seven to nine speed I thought I would renew the rim whilst I was at it. having looked at various sites selling the new 319 rims I cannot see one with any mentio...

Re: Chain cleaning - Sand

Hi. We bike in the dales and its all gritstone around here. Pick up a chain bath. You need the type with the three wheel brushes . the chain goes over the first then down in to the solvent to go under the second then its brought back up again by the third. Finally there are plastic fins that flick t...

Re: Not Fun... :-( Trying to be positive about my trip out today

Re pigmans comments. I fully agree that you both need to be of a similar mind when you buy a tandem. My wife was on the point of packing up riding and this was a last attempt to keep it as a joint hobby/sport. We are both well past our sell by date now so I dont think image was a problem as it is to...

Re: Not Fun... :-( Trying to be positive about my trip out today

If you do go the tandem way ( and I can highly reccomend it ) for goodness sake be prepared to give some time to get used to it .It will take a few interesting rides before it all comes together. There are those who give up and sell their tandems after a couple of rides. Its like selling your car be...

Re: Old school mtbs

Keep a look out for a Kona explosive with the mixed tange tubeset. They did one with tange ultra strong/ultralight and profile as a kind of designer select build. They have the ultrastrong down tube with corrugated ribs running its length. Mine must be fifteen years old now and there is no way I wil...

Re: Not Fun... :-( Trying to be positive about my trip out today

I know its been said before on this topic but buy a tandem. We had the same problem the other way round. Good lady wife has never been a strong rider and allthough I am well passed my sell by date it was getting a bit of a bind having to wait at the top and bottom of the hills. Also if I wanted to b...

Re: Swapping front tyres on mtb

NOOOOOOOOOO !!! Dont go there!!!. A front end wash out can cost a fortune in trips to the Hospital and time off work not to mention painkillers. I know times are hard but please just buy another tyre.Even a cheap steel bead knobbly will do the job. Better still if its a front specific type. Yes the ...

Re: £500 Hardtails

Look for what fits you. O.K. that might sound silly but it isnt. I have a long body and short legs so I ride Kona with the lower and longer top tube. It allows me room to stretch and keeps the top tube away from the delicate bits. Rocky mountain are similar but slightly shorter. Some of the other mak...

Re: Rose tinted glasses?

Regarding the full susser argument I wonder how many people are put off mountain biking for life because the first bike they buy to see if they like it is a cheap and very heavy full suspension machine. The full susser is fast becoming the accepted image of what a mountain bike should look like. At ...

Re: Rose tinted glasses?

Ok I am starting to go on about this ( see death of a simple mountain bike )but it is something I feel quite strongly about. I dont think its anything to do with rose tinted glasses to yearn for the time when bikes where simple hard tails. It was a time when you had to learn to ride in order to mast...
