Re: Bikes on SNCM ferry from Marseille to Ajaccio
Travelled last summer from Marseille to and from Ajaccio. The boats were different. One of them was very luxurious. Had an a la carte meal on the return looking out at the sunset. Wanted a cabin so booked in advance to take advantage of cheaper fares. Can't remember who we booked with but probably S...

Re: tour route D9, Romantic road, Germany
Did part of this last year while cycle camping. Yes, it was enjoyable but better when we had a rough idea of the route beforehand so that we could decide to cut out some off-road bits rather than just following the signs. Camp sites were outside the towns so we did not really get an opportunity to e...

Re: Cycling in the Faroe Islands
Ferry ran until a year or two ago from Scrabster (Smyril Line) to Iceland with enforced 2 night stop on the Faeroes one way. Now you must go via Denmark and from Scotland that means via England as well!

Corsica - ferry Ajaccio - Porticcio
Does anyone know if this ferry across the bay takes bicycles? It would seem a good way to cut down on main roads.

No ferry now from Scotland (Scrabster or Lerwick) to Faroes. You must travel via Denmark. Ferry from Newcastle to Norway was axed few years ago.

Re: Dumfries and Galloway: touring ideas?
The routes from the Birthday Rides 2006 can be viewed on the CTC Scotland web page http://www.ctcscotland.org.uk/br2006/ . Also the Sustrans map "NCN Lochs & Glens South" has a lot of information and is more useful that the usual Sustrans strip maps. Available from http://www.sustranss...

Just make sure you check out the times of the ferries on http://www.calmac.co.uk as I think you can only travel from Colonsay to Oban or Islay.

Ergon grips
I need to buy Ergon grips for another bike. I see from http://www.wiggle.co.uk/mc/Cycle/7/Ergon/Bar_Grips/ that there is a wider range available. Although I have small hands, I prefer the larger ones. What is special about the magnesium ones and are the longer bar ends good?
