Re: Feet and fingers

I just thought I would let people know about my solution(s)
I really suffer on cold rides, so much that I had almost decided not to do any riding on cold days.
Last September I bought some Hotronic insoles and Hestra heated gloves. I have used them right through the winter and they have completely transformed my cycling. It was quite an investment, but I doubt I would have ridden through much of the last six months without them. The best day though was a really miserable wet day when I punctured. My hands got a bit cold changing tubes, and on any other day I would have begun to suffer, but putting the warm gloves on was akin to settling in front of a warm fire.
The insoles have a 4 setting function, and I have only had to resort to level 3 for a short while, but level one keeps my feet warm without overheating quite well most of the time.
I don't use the heating elements in the gloves all that much, but find a quick blast of heat from time to time keeps the gloves (which are really beautifully made in any event) warm for ages

Re: Tricks for being seen on the road.

I have a bike trailer and in it sits a german shepherd dog. We go every where together, and i get no trouble from passing motorists. So I ride in the middle of the road, seriously, right in the middle, and the people ahead of me, turning across my path or out of junctions, see me too. I haven't had a smidsy in 10 years, not a single one.
Better still when I park up, I just leave her in the trailer, it is like her second home. How many bikes have I had stolen? Do I use a lock?
She is the solution to so many problems.
Get a dog, guys and girls.

Re: Abused For Defending a Group of Cyclist's Whilst Driving

I cycle along a stretch of road every morning and evening that has queues of cars, all patiently sitting behind one another, often going at less than walking pace and often completely stationary.
They seem to be able to coexist with one another doing that so whay can't they be as patient when behind a cyclist who is certainly making better progress than the cars I experience are?
Even 40 foot long lorries sit there crawling along without trying to overtake, and there are rarely any cars coming the other way.

So the answer to whether your Member Group can claim is: only if you have been allocated your own postcode area of the membership. You can then claim the 18p for every CTC member in that area, whether they are active in your group or not.

No it isn't, we set up a group, all my friends joined it, as our main group and we get the funding for each person.
It isn't much, but it isn't dependant on postcodes. You can now opt out of the postcode thing easily. That was what made us set up our group.

Mick
Are you describing a stinging sensation as rain runs into your eyes?
I have had this in the past on very wet rides, and I was wearing cycling glasses. I think sweat (or salt) was being washed out of my hemet pads into my eyes. I had to get off as it was too dangerous to ride until it settled down.
I would love to know how to prevent it. At the moment I dare not go out in heavy rain.
Any ideas?
I am currently trying a cap under my helmet, which seems to keep the problem away when I get caught in the rain, but I still would like some better advice.
