Re: How do you carry big shopping?
Carry Freedom large Y trailer behind either my ICE or F-frame Moulton. Black re-cycling box holds a week's shopping.

Re: Trikes blocked by barriers on permitted routes
They both said that the barriers were already noted on their 'audit' and are scheduled to be dealt with 'soon'. As I wrote, I'm keeping an eye on them and will chase up if nothing happens.

Re: Helmet Bill and reasons to oppose it
Some years ago, an MP called Eric Martlew tried to bring in a compulsory helmet Bill. It appeared to be going well until an enterprising journalist discovered that Martlew was being 'sponsored' by an organisation called 'BHIT' (Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust), a consortium of helmet manufacturers. After that, the bill sank without trace - other than helmets were subsequently known as 'Martlehats'.

Re: SJS Cycles - excellent service
They're one of my local bike shops, so I'm usually a walk-in customer. Always have excellent service and advice.

The latter, of course, is NOT a serious suggestion!!

Re: Bike locks ?
I've got a Kryptonite New York D-lock which is heavier than the bike! I take it if the bike will be left for more than a very short time. I also use a small Kryptonite shackle lock, but don't have much faith in it. A cable lock too, which is only for when the bike is in line of sight. Nothing is totally safe except for a Rottweiler or sitting in view with a loaded shotgun!!

Re: Trikes blocked by barriers on permitted routes
I've recently spoken to Sustrans and the local Corporation (Somerset) about barrier blocking the local canal towpath and various paths in town - especially along the river path. In fairness, they said that action will be taken to modify or remove them and they both noted the ones I mentioned. I'm keeping an eye to see if anything gets done.

I still rely on a very old Topeak Alien. Had it for years, but it still does the job.

Re: Looks Like The Cycling Boom Is Over.
The Bike Park was the site near Coal Orchard. Corp. flogged it off to a local doctor's surgery who wanted the building. Great shame after so much ratepayers money was spent on it. I agree there are plenty of Sheffield stands around the town, but I wouldn't trust a decent bike left there. The Main Street has marked cycling lanes (narrow) on each side, but, at the top of the street they dump cyclists onto a vile cobbled area on a busy roundabout. Not very well planned.

Re: The Bodmin Beast
Years ago, I worked at Barrow Gurney, originally an old Victorian lunatic asylum, then a psychiatric hospital (now a housing estate). There were many 'sightings' of the alleged 'Beast of Barrow, although many people reckoned it was the Consultant Psychiatrist coming back from the pub.

Re: Looks Like The Cycling Boom Is Over.
Some years ago, Toytown (Taunton) had a useful bike park near the cricket ground. It cost 15 pence to leave your bike in a secure compound. The local corporation spent a fortune on upgrading it, adding a building which had a workshop with a bike mechanic, showers and changing facilities. Shortly after doing this, the corporation flogged it off to a local doctor's surgery leaving no provisions whatsoever save for a crop of Sheffield stands around the town. Total waste of money and the loss of a useful resource - even though it was a bit of a hike from there to the shops.

Carra - dice - after Wilf Carradice who started the company. Apparently the staff find it highly amusing if people pronounce it as if it were Italian!!

Re: Huntingdon: Angry pedestrian guilty of killing cyclist
They will never release the following few seconds - it would be too traumatic. I do wish, though, that they could, in some way edit to make clear whether Grey actually hit or pushed the victim into the road. I'm sure that the victim reacted instinctively and swerved out of the range of Grey's arm. Grey would, presumably, have been able to see the approaching car. The victim wouldn't have had time in the split second to know whether a car was approaching on the road. From the sentencing remarks, it seems that the Judge accepted that the driver, Mrs Money, had no time to react. Those few seconds will haunt her forever.
This video shows Grey being very aggressive towards the cyclist - and she was clearly lying in the police interview. I'm not a lawyer, but the sentence seems excessively lenient - perhaps because of Grey's disabilities.

Re: Cycling to a recycling centre
Here, in Somerset, I've taken loads of rubbish to the tip with my bike and trailer several times. I usually get amazed comments, but never a refusal.
