Rear light mounting problems
20201115_152015.jpg For my regular weekly/weekend rides I have a wedge bag attached to my seat-post and no carrier. I wonder if anyone knows of a way of attaching a rear battery light to the mudguard or the seat-stays. Most lights I am aware of seem to be designed to be attachable only to the seat-...

Halfords 6 function wireless computer
Curses! My trusty Halfords 6 function wireless computer has just run out of battery after I don't know how many years. Of course I can't find the instructions anywhere now that I have forked out the princely sum of £1.20 for new batteries. Does anyone still have a copy? I have looked everywhere on-l...

Re: Raleigh Record Ace early 80s - paint!
I had a Raleigh Record Ace purchased around 1984 brand new and I remember the thing that sold it to me was the lovely champagne / metallic beige colour. Roll forward 34 years and I guess colour is still subliminally affecting my tastes but I am much more interested in what the frame is made from. Th...

Re: Condor Heritage - when built?
You are on the right track Murphy. I have met the guy trying to sell it and he hasn't a clue. If you search http://www.bikeshd.co.uk for the word "condor" you will see that he has advertised it several times on Gumtree for amounts as low as £399 and since I visited him and pointed out that...

Condor Heritage - when built?
I saw a nice Condor Heritage bike with a 64cm Reynolds 631 frame for sale on Gumtree London today and was wondering if anyone knows when Condor built these? Condor's current frames badged as Condor Heritage are Italian made Dedacciai triple butted jobs and look nothing like the older Reynolds frames...

Attaching rechargeable rear light
I am looking to replace the Reelight attached by a cable tie to my rear mounted wire basket. The cable to this light broke where it enters the back of the light and there is no way of opening the light to re-attach the cable. This is very annoying considering how expensive these lights are. My next ...

How to make an old frame shine like new ?
Has anyone got any tips on how to make a jaded frame and guards shine like new? I have a hobby based in Sweden selling second hand bikes at a street market and as there is a lot of competition from other vendors I want my bikes to stand out from the crowd. I had wondered whether T cut polish would w...

Primping, pimping, tarts & coffee
EDIT : Graham : This is a copy of the original topic that digressed somewhat from the intended question. I have retained it for any further contributions in (here) the Tea Shop . . . . . . . Has anyone got any tips on how to make a jaded frame and guards shine like new? I have a hobby based in Swed...

Rear facing front brakes
I noticed a very tasty Condor bicycle for sale on eBay today that has rear facing front brakes. I have never come across this before and wonder if anyone has any comments. I guess they help improve the aerodynamics a little but otherwise what is the advantage? Here it is : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/...

Trip across Holland
I am planning a trip from Hoek van Holland to Emmerich on the German border. Can anyone tell me if this follows a recognised cycle route and if so which maps to recommend.

Re: Has anyone done coast to coast in the US?
I cycled from Los Angeles to Vancouver in 1981 on the then recently marked Pacific Coast Bicycle route. Took me 8 weeks of cycling roughly 50 miles a day. Two of us going against the prevailing wind met everyone else coming the other way. Camped (mainly) in forest parks where if you turned up on a b...

I am pretty sure this Sprint kids bike was being produced at Potters Bar Trusty Viscount factory when I worked there in 1980 or thereabouts.

Re: Canti's vs V's
I agree with Swallow: V brakes look awful and the cheaper ones can fail suddenly when the noodle end pulls through the metal stirrup.Having said that I have low profile cantilever brakes on my touring bike and they are poor cf V brakes for stopping power.

Wheel sizes
I have an old 3 speed steel frame bike that serves me very well but the chrome plated steel wheels take 26 X 1 1/4 tyres. At some stage I would like to replace these wheels with alloys because they are lighter and better in the wet. Also tyres of this size are very hard to come by. I don't think I c...
