Re: Viscount bicycles!!
Most of the time I am in London or north Kent, but would be willing to travel north for a Viscount themed meet. Of course the Potters Bar factory would be great for me as its only about a 30 minute drive away, slightly selfish I know. But I am definetly up for a Viscount gathering, just need someone to name a time and place.

Easily done! I just went for "Aerospace" as it's a bit more cryptic, and it's my favourite Viscount range. It's thing that set them apart. IMHO anyway. But wait til I get some decent decals and I'll do a Viscount version as well for all you poor chaps with lugged frames! hehe! b
Or a SEBRING one possibly?

Slightly off topic but slightly related too, an old chap I knew on another forum, sadly no longer with us. The discussion was ' why do you ride bikes' His very simple reply was ' My wife hated bikes, now she is dead I own 15' No offence to your wife but this topic kind of remined me of the late 50/14.

Re: Any mechanical mess-ups you want to own up to?
After returning from a night shift at work i thought that as it was a nice sunny day i would tinker with my newly purchased vintage frame. The BB cup was stuck fast in the shell and i was determined not to let it beat me. So i stood the frame at 90 degrees out in front of me, grabbed a rather long adustable spanner and secured it around the flats. For some odd reason instead of positioning the spanner so I could push it away from myself I did it the opposite way. I pushed hard on the spanner and enevitably it slipped off the flats and the handle hit me square on top of the head. God it made my eyes water. I then went to bed as I should have done in the first place.

Kryptonite Evolution Mini, but its small size does limit your locking options, buy two!

Re: Injury mechanism crashing with spd's
I had recieved a groin strain injury from unclipping a year or two back on a mini roundabout after a car entered the r/b without seeing me. I was trying to avoid collision, brake, unclip and get a foot down and banged my groin area on the top tube. I always have my SPDs set at the minimum tension and have never had any unexpected unclipping incidents. When riding through slow traffic I always unclip my left foot and rest the arch of my foot on the pedal and keep pedalling like that until free of obstructions. That way I feel safer as I can get a foot down should I need to come to a sudden stop.

Re: Headset tools, worth it?
I have always used a length of M10 threaded bar with nuts, stout washers and a couple of chunky 1/2" drive sockets, and for the fork crown race a large box spanner which just fits over the fork stem and can be slid up and down to tap the race evenly into place. In total the whole lot probably didn't cost more than a tenner.

What sort of terrain will you be riding on? I agree with chris667 that we all tend to have too many gears really. Who really needs 27? I manage with one but three or five would be ok too.

Re: Germans-cycles.de Anyone know where you can buy their bikes
I visited Berlin quite a bit in the early noughties, virtually everyone under the age of 40 learnt english as a foreign language so there should be no problem. If in doubt just point at something and shout in English, most foreigners usually understand
