Re: E Bikes Taking over Boris Bikes?
Yes I was intrigued to see them in London too the other day and today in Brighton where, moreover, they appeared to have solar chargers built in - I'm surprised sufficient charge would be obtained from such a set-up, or maybe it is just supplementary?

Re: First bike thoughts?
Thanks for all the thoughts, which I've passed on to Mum and, I think, it'll be a balance bike for now.

First bike thoughts?
My soon to be 3-year old granddaughter is interested in learning to cycle.
1. Any recommendations on the best bike / type of bike to start out with + do children still begin with stabilisers?
2. Any thoughts on the best pathway to learning at this age?
Thanks, Graham

Like the look of that Will, could you provide any details of what you've used and where it comes from please?
I have a Dawes Audax with drops that I'd like to convert but wary of the crank conversion + how to mount the controls with drop handlebars.
Thanks, Graham

Re: Pannier Fixing
Will they fit if you remove the battery? If so remove battery, fit pannier bags, refit battery. Yes the fixings go over the rack and clip without the battery but the problem is that with the battery in there is not sufficient clearance for the fixing clips i.e. your suggestion won't work. I've look...

D-Day Ride
On this day 9-years ago I completed my tour of the D-Day beaches in Normandy, France. It was an interesting and at times very moving trip, especially on 6th June and I just wanted to record my experience and thoughts here today 6th June. The story of my ride can be found here on my blog: https://rou...

Re: Pannier Fixing
Besides buying new panniers, there are a couple of other options. According to the Ortlieb FAQ, your QL2 panniers can be hooked directly into the QL3.1 rail. https://www.ortlieb.com/us/service/faq/ That means you can attach this QL3.1 rail to your rack and use it as an extra rail: https://www.ortli...

Re: Pannier Fixing
Thanks for the ideas and comments. You would think that when making a rack like this they would consider fitting requirements for panniers as well = very poor and annoying design! I presume the Ortlieb alternative fixing is the QL3? If it is, from what I can see it (a) will not retrofit the panniers...

Pannier Fixing
Following a knee replacement a few years ago I've successfully converted my Trek 830 to electric assistance which has allowed me to continue cycling, without it I'd be off the road! I deliberately chose a large, high power flat battery to provide good range which neatly slides into the bespoke rear ...

No but it isn't that hilly either, so long as you pick your route carefully - more rolling.

Re: Normandy Beaches
I hope my blog form 2010 will help answer some of your questions. If you can manage to be there on 6th June it's even more rewarding.
