Back peddling brake

I've just returned from a very successful ride through the Italian Tyrol using a hired e-bike. The trip was great but for a number of reasons the hire bike was awful, one aspect in particular. The assistance was crank driven and when back peddling - less than 5 degrees - actuated a braking mechanism...

Re: A positive thread

A pleasant ride yesterday through Surrey countryside close to Rusper on a circular route not taken for a while, in this case in reverse. Doing this you see familiar things from a whole new perspective and even after 20-years things hadn't noticed before = strange but interesting. For old time sake I...

Re: A positive thread

First, thanks to the OP for starting this interesting, enjoyable and sometimes uplifting thread - on which note it doesn't get much better than the BBC report today regarding the police working with youths on bikes in inner London. Congratulations are in order: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/stories-4...

Giant Ease-E +2 eBike

I already have a converted electric bike but am posting here to ask if anybody has any experience or comments on this Giant bike which my step mother is considering buying? Apart from obvious mechanical and build issues, what would be the likely range of the battery? https://www.giant-bicycles.com/g...

Re: North Norfolk Coastline

My wife and I rode Ipswich to Kings Lynn in June 2014. It was a great ride and can highly recommend the area - particularly liked Wells-Next-The-Sea. Here's a link to my blog on the tour: https://roundthebendpart1.wordpress.com/2015/04/23/east-anglia-june-2014/ Would be interested to hear some feedb...

Re: eBike Conversions - Go on, show us yours!

Thanks for the response so far. The point (if possible) is to create an ongoing thread which shows 'how to' and the result of other peoples eBike conversion experiences and issues from which others can learn. I personally found such good and reliable information difficult to come by, so keep them co...

eBike Conversions - Go on, show us yours!

After a knee replacement and the deterioration of my other knee was keeping me off the road, I converted my Trek MTB 830 to electric assistance one year ago and I'm pleased to say it has literally put me back on the road. https://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=117417 After more than 50...

Re: Wheel Recommendation

Thanks. I have had wheels from SPA before, which were good but just wondered about off-the-shelf this time. Also meant to say 36 spoke, rim width 25mm & for a x7 speed cassette. if the hub is in good shape, I'd suggest getting a sputnik rim built onto it. Job done. You will find it difficult to...

Wheel Recommendation

I am interested in changing my rear wheel on Trek 830 MTB, currently Araya 26" x 150HE VP20 with Marathon Plus 26" x 1.50" tyres.

Any recommendations - not too expensive but decent quality.

Thanks, Graham

Re: OBREA GAIN D40 (e-bike)

Hmm, this is unfortunately getting more and more interesting, really liking the sound of this bike which could be just what I've been looking for (a) something less electric looking and better specced (b) more conventional. My main bike has been a Dawes audax - not unlike the Galaxy and Yukon Rob - ...
