Re: OBREA GAIN D40 (e-bike)

I'm intrigued by this bike but is it really a tourer? 1. Will it take a rack and panniers? 2. Will it take mudguards? 3. What are the largest tyres it could take, online suggests they are sold with 28C's? 4. That headset looks a bit challenging for touring? After knee a replacement and the other one...

Re: Adding front disc brake

OK thanks. I now have a TRA which will be fitted as soon as it cools down a bit and will apply some TLC to the existing brakes and wheel setting for now. I the longer run, probably over winter, I will take a closer look at new V-brakes and levers etc. Can anybody recommend suitable integrated brake ...

Re: Adding front disc brake

About to go ahead and then read this thread which now concerns me. https://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=123021 Does this mean I must change the brake levers if I change from cantis to v-brake or is there a work around? I have straight bars and thought I'd be able to use the same integ...

Re: Adding front disc brake

Thanks, sounds good. Provisional measurements suggest it will work - thinking of these:

Re: Adding front disc brake

Plan-B (provisional) like the idea of V-brake - simpler and cheaper. What do In need to consider to ensure fitting e.g. how do I ensure the brake blocks will along with the rim - I presume some form of drop distance? + will the boss fittings be standard and work for V-brakes as well as cantis? + any...

Don't know but will take a look. Thanks.

Re: Adding front disc brake

Thanks for the thoughts - pity I hoped I could get away with the existing forks but no surprised really - maybe I can get the cantis better set-up? Does the fork geometry matter as my current forks are slightly curved and most of what I can see are straight + can I use suspension forks instead? http...

Adding front disc brake

I have an old Trek 830 MTB which because of knee problems I successfully converted to front wheel electric hub assisted drive last year. However, I find the front cantilever brakes do not work well with the new 26" wheel / are difficult to adjust in order to take account of the wheel being set ...

Tyre Size & Recommendation

I'm looking to replace the tyres on my son-in-law's oldish Ribble bike. At he moment it has Vitoria Roma 22 22-622 700-22C tyres on Mavik wheels (no wheel info). This tyre size now seems hard to come by with the 700-23 more commonly available. 1. Would a 700-23 tyre fit OK? 2. Can anyone recommend a...

Re: Thanet Coast Route?

I did the Kent coast clockwise a few years ago. Here's a link to my blog - if you pick the bones out of this it might help you decide. Reculver to Margate is very nice but if I were going from Margate to Bournemouth I'd go via Dover - Eastbourne and then maybe inland through the South Downs to Winch...

Re: French battlefields

D-Day beaches etc takes some beating, especially if you can go at the time of 6th June commemorations: https://roundthebendpart1.wordpress.com/2015/03/11/d-day-beaches-normandy-june-2010/ Not so much a tour but could be made into one The Somme is also very interesting: https://roundthebendpart1.word...

Thanks for the info, amazing how the humble bike has played such a pivotal role in warfare.

Sounds like a great ride Simon, will be interested to get a report when you return.

Came across this interesting memorial at the front of City Hall whilst visiting Cardiff yesterday. I wonder if anybody can provide anything more about them and this memorial? Thanks.
