Re: fast touring tyre

Another option would be Continental Ultra Gators, available in 23,25 and 28m. When pumped up hard (115-120) they roll very well and the puncture resistance is superb.

Re: Waterproof Socks

Mick F,

Might i suggest you have a look at "Aquatherm Socks" from www.Reedchillcheater.com. They are not breathable in any way, but made out of a material very similar to the black heavy duty "Marigold" gloves. Being of a very stretchy material they form a good seal around the calf without cutting off blood circulation. If any water does get inside them, your feet will still stay warm, and they dry almost immediately when turned inside out. I have dealt with the company for a number of years, being a Watersports Instructor, and found them to be great to deal with, well worth a try, might be the answer to your wet feet probs.

Re: Total Beginner (Newcastle Upon Tyne) Needs Help!!

Hi, I don't know Newcastle at all but i would have thought your local bike shop a good starting point for advice on routes, clubs etc. Avoid Halfords and similar chain stores, find a small bike shop and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised at the reception you get.

Enjoy.

Re: How to ride a tandem in a wedding dress?

I think Sidesaddle (You could turn the saddle sideways for a bit of comfort) would be the most elegant - and let himself do the pedalling.

Would like to echo Mick,s comments - Hearty Congrats - and remember to post a pic!

Re: Best/brightest rear lights?

Have you tried the "Firefly Supernova", Wonderfully bright light, can be set for "always-on" or "flashing", weighs less than one ounce and is so small can be kept in the saddle bag all the time so is never left on the kitchen table! Available direct from www.RoadID.com.

Re: Change from 25 Gatorskins to 23 GP4000S

I will !!!

4 months on, I can report that these are great tyres. I've noticed:
- a really small increase in vibration - not enough to be a problem
- cruising speed up from c.15 mph to more like 16.5
- tyres give a really fun ride and are really good in the wet
- no punctures yet.

The increase isn't just down to less friction - there's something about the tyre that makes me put more effort into it.

Thanks to those who recommended the GP4000S - I'm very pleased with them.

MINKIE;

Just been forwarded this link by a buddy who know's i swear by Gatorskins and IMO the difference you're are noticing you are noticing is more down to change in tyre size (25-23) than model. The Gatorskins are poss slightly heavier, because of their superb puncture resistant layer, i think the rubber compound is very similar between them and the GP's. To Be fair on the Gatorskins when your GP's wear out try some 23mm Gatorskins, suspect your speed will stay the same.

Love to hear any other views on this .

Re: Mavic Cosmos Freehub probs

Fenderbender;

Have the freehub off, local cycle club website has found someone with a spare, hopefully the correct one, as my LBS says Mavic no longer has these available for order!

Regards,

Joff.

Mavic Cosmos Freehub probs

Hi, the freehub on my Mavic Cosmos is showing definite signs of wear (sideways play). My LBS stripped it for me and replaced the bearings but no noticeable improvement. They said i need a new one, but that the Cosmos is a different hub to the modern Askiums, Ksryiums etc for which a replacement is easily available. The rest of the wheels are in good condition so i would like to keep them. Does anyone know what hub the Cosmos is, and where i can get either a new one or replacement internals?

Re: SKS mudguards

Mick,

You were after a S/S self-tapper for your mudguards, try a Chandlery (Boat Shop), should find one in any size, but be prepared to be amazed, anything to do with boats seems to make even Campag stuff appear very good value!

Re: Wheels

hi, you say the rim dips a bit, this implies a flat spot on the rim, prob caused by one of the curbs you mention!
Adjusting spokes to true a wheel that is out of alignment (side to side) is relatively easy, but to take out a flat spot if the rim is dented is much harder, and depending on the rim sometimes impossible. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but you may be looking at a new rim/wheel!

Campag C9 chain

Hi,
Looking for advice on a Campag chain. Can i fit a SRAM connecting link to a C9 chain to make removal for cleaning a bit quicker/easier.
Am running the chain on 9speed mirage chainset/cassette.
Thanks,
Joff.
