Re: Crash on Cyclepath

[quote="fullupandslowingdown"]It is curious how any obstruction on the main carriageway is totally verboten but the most heinous of obstructions are routinely planted on footpaths and cycleways as if cyclists and pedestrians don't have the same rights of free passage that car drivers expec...

Re: Gloves for cycling

Whatever the choose, the wisdom here is, apparently, to make sure that they are black! :D Yes - you'd think that manufacturers would know better. Some so called cycling gloves are yellow/white/reflective on the back, but remain black in the palm. The whole of the glove needs to be hi-viz to be effe...

Re: Holes in Gatorskin tyres

...............I contacted the supplier a reputable dealer down in the south west of the country whom supplied these, who told me they had never had any issues with these tyres before! After reading various forum issues over burst tyres I am somewhat disappointed with the response I got from my sup...

Re: Holes in Gatorskin tyres

I used Gatorskins as my main commuting tyres for a few years and while I found them very stiff and dead feeling and personally found them deadly on road metalwork and white lines when the roads were wet, (which is most of the time in the winter) there was never any question about their durability a...

Re: Holes in Gatorskin tyres

I'm disappointed with all this. I gave up using Paselas some years ago, for just this same reason following three rear wheel blow-outs on them Another member reported (on the Forum) having had a side-wall blowout on a Pasela, on the front, and hospitalized due to the injury. I converted to Gatorskin...

Re: Reduce wind noise when wearing headphones?

...................You seem to spend a lot of time “pulling off” when you hear a vehicle behind you. I’m surprised that you ever get anywhere. I never pull off for anybody.............. I admire your surveillance system which tells you how much time I spend doing what. Do you do it by satellite? or...

Re: Reduce wind noise when wearing headphones?

The OP was about problems experienced, whether real or imagined, with ear-plugs (or whatever you'd call them), and my support for the idea that they are not of benefit to riding my bike hasn't altered. And that discussion was moved to another topic by the mods back on page 2 https://forum.cyclinguk...

Re: New Royals Going It Alone

 Hi, The problem with the Royals is that they have excess of money they have their own advisors And they are connected, they don't have to work either. many of us plebs don't have any of that. Do you think maybe they would be better advised on how to behave, even what not to say. ................

Re: New Royals Going It Alone

It would be sad if our only reaction was about whether this would advance our own political views. Two people at the centre of this appear to be facing struggles. Even those who feel that the Royal Family does not deserve special consideration presumably feel that they deserve the same as everyone ...

Re: Reduce wind noise when wearing headphones?

So the main so-called benefit of cyclists riding without headphones is to slow their journeys and get them out of the way of motorists. Got it. It sounds like it might be better for everyone if cyclists were required to wear deafening headphones! As well as keeping them on the highways and encourag...

Re: Reduce wind noise when wearing headphones?

I HEAR an HGV behind me, and for the sake of my life and to be helpful to the HJGV driver, I often pull off when safe, to allow him to pass. [...] I could HEAR an unlit quad-bike behind me on the greenway in the dark, and pulled off. [...] I could HEAR a ghetto-blasted boy-racer [...] so I pulled o...

Re: Reduce wind noise when wearing headphones?

I don't want to underestimate the benefits of rear-view mirrors (RVM) - they are fairly recent additions to my cycling, and they are a boon - very much so. However, I don't have my eyes on them all the time - if I did I wouldn't be looking where I was going. I HEAR an HGV behind me, and for the sake...

Re: Reduce wind noise when wearing headphones?

..............I notice that the vast majority of pedestrians and the occasional cyclist I pass wearing earbuds don't notice me until I'm almost by their side despite my bell ringing and speaking loudly to them as I approach. On this, and your other posts on this thread John - we sing from the same ...
