Suspension seat posts with setback

12 months of sciatic pain, 4 months off the bike and 2 back operations later, I am starting to dream about swinging a leg back over a bike again. I need to minimise any road shock and maximise my long term future on the bike. I already have a fab touring bike (Van Nicholas Pioneer) which (especially...

Re: Ergon bar ends and mirrors.

I am researching this and my understanding is that the new 2015 GP4 and GP5 grips now have a standard bar end plug allowing any standard bar end mirror to be used?

Re: Weight distribution.

what hamster said. It depends so much on your bikes, your relative weight/fitness, routes and what type of touring you are doing. If you are camping AND cooking, its hard to avoid front panniers. Not that you would want to on most touring bikes because they are designed to be front loaded. On my old...

Re: Cable lock in hand baggage?

Some feedback to share and as thanks for everyones contributions: Pedals in hand luggage were fine. Thermos was queried in one airport but allowed. Tent (Ti) pegs spotted and (understandably) threatened with expulsion. It was my mistake, having forgot that they were wrapped in the tent inner (desper...

Somersets shaving oil bottle worked brilliantly. Better than the bottle the oil (ProLink Gold) came in

Re: panniers panniers panniers???

My new roller pluses leaked a little water/moisture when riding all day in torrential rain in NZ. Seemed the water creeps in via wicking along the seam which is sown in to the roller bar thinghy? At the time I was travelling with 2 very experienced round-the-world tourers and they both had the same ...

Re: Hook postion on orlieb roller plus with tubus logo rack

2 hooks per rear bag worked a treat for me over 2800 km on and off road touring in NZ. Did not jump off once :)

Re: Emirates

Afraid to report that my experience with Emirates was very poor. Weighed everything including hand luggage and decided I owed them 9kg/£450  Managed to negotiate down to 3 kg, but was then slugged again when exiting Australia to NZ. Box was evidently handled very roughly as split open on arri...

Re: Thermos flask for standard cage

Happy to report that final setup worked fantastically over nearly 3000 km on and off-road touring in NZ :) The 2 x 1 litre oversized water bottles were a simple and effective solution to surprisingly long distances between drinking water in hot and dry conditions in the South Island. Thermos with bi...

Re: Cable lock in hand baggage?

I'm worried about my pedals now. Everything is weapon to a maniac.
We'll be reduced to carrying cuddy toys only soon.

Re: Off-bike travel shoes recommendation

My Shimano spds are so comfy I wear them all day every day, on and off the bike, hot or cold. Hiking, sight-seeing etc. For evenings/hotels/camp site etc I upgraded from flip-flops to Crocs a few years a go :)

Cable lock in hand baggage?

I know, crazy, but I have to ask the Q.
Do airlines/security allow cable locks in hand baggage? I'm desperately trying to minimise check-in baggage weight, so as a small heavy item, my combination cable lock is a prime candidate for hand baggage. E.g. I normally carry my pedals as luggage.
Thanks

Re: Emirates

Eek! Just about to fly Emirates to Auckland. Struggling with weight and fitting my long wheelbase tourer in a 'normal' cardboard bicycle box. I see you can pre-purchase excess baggage for 10% off
