Re: Ortlieb rack pack - which size for back rollers

Ortlieb newbie Q number 9674892 Trying to set-up/test my rear roller pluses + medium rack pack and all I see is a load of loose straps and loops that will snag on things! Am I missing something here or just being dumb? The 'shoulder strap' used to tie down the ends of the roller pluses seems too lon...

Re: Thermos flask for standard cage

Thx for all responses. I knew CTCers would get passionate about this most important topic :) Here is what I have discovered: - There is a gaping massive vacuum (boom boom) hole in the market for a range of different capacity, robust, light flasks that fit in to a standard (70 mm diameter) bicycle ca...

Re: Hook postion on orlieb roller plus with tubus logo rack

Thx for comments. Yep, top hooks are as wide as possible and hard against stays to stop movement. My bike (VN Pioneer) has a very long wheelbase, so heel clearance is not an issue. Hence I have lots of adjustment fore and aft if needs be. Moved the hook to upper elliptical rail. Discovered that you ...

Hook postion on orlieb roller plus with tubus logo rack

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I can not find relevant discussion. I am a Ortlieb newbie and trying to find the optimal fit for new roller pluses (QL2 rail system) on my tubus logo titan rack; which is, I assume, a well tried and tested combination? At least for the steel logo version?...

Re: Eurovelo 7 South to North?

We cycled from Florence north on EV7 last year. Didn't see a road sign until we hit northern lakes of Italy, so I suspect its not marked in the South of Italy? Have a look at: http://www.biroto.eu/en/cycle-route/italy/eurovelo-sun-route-bastiglia-to-minturno-ev7/rt00000590 http://www.fiab-onlus.it/c...

Shinano A530 pedal lubrication

OH says her A530 single side touring pedals are getting stiff. I have given them a thorough clean and turned the 3mm adjuster anti-clockwise to minimum. Is there any point in lubricating them? Where? Just a spring against a plate in there? Nothing is really moving? I remember visiting a bike shop on...

Re: Thermos flask for standard cage

Many thanks for useful replies. I like the idea of a standard thermos flask, such as that suggested by reohn2 held by the monkii cage suggested by bikepacker. Even better if (when necessary) the cage could carry a 1.5l drinks bottle for long remote legs. Will the standard monkii cage handle that or ...

Thermos flask for standard cage

Enough of all this tech bike stuff, now down to the most important things for next tour.... smoko (= morning tea) Can anyone recommend a light weight (stainless steel?) thermos flask that fits in to a standard bottle cage (c. 70 mm diameter?), which is robust enough for the under-the-down-tube cage....

@foxyrider
Many many thanks. 3 mm less height and 5 mm less width might just be enough.

Schwalbe Marathon Mondial tyre height

The tyre height (rim to top- see below) on the Schwalbe Marathon Mondial 700 x 40C (42-622) is close to 40 mm and they will not fit on my OH's (hybrid) bike. Correction, they will *just fit*, but I see hours of fiddling, days of maddening scraping noises while on tour, new mudguards and close encoun...

Re: Ortlieb Ultimate 5 bar bag- Securing the internal divide

@foxyrider. Thx, if I cant fix something up myself, I might look at that.

Like many others, I immediately ditched the ortlieb meaningless locking bracket and traded-up to a rixen and kauk klickfix bracket.

Re: Ortlieb Ultimate 5 bar bag- Securing the internal divide

I thought that Ortlieb had fixed this problem with the 6, but evidently not: 09:25 onwards http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvigHrm8PuM At least they fixed the 5's next most annoying problem, the crappy/fiddly button lid, by making it a magnetic lid, but it still gets caught/stuck when closing (13:40)...
