Re: When I flew with my bike this is what happened......

Where does one buy the CTC Plastic Bike Bags? Do Wiggle, the CTC shop sell them?

If you pack your bike in cardboard for the outbound journey and have to build the bike up and ride it out from the destination airport what do you use to pack the bike in on the return journey?

Re: 44-32-22 chainset with sti road shifters

Yes I have a Shimano SLX chainset with 44/32/22T being operated by Shimano 4503 (Road) STI brake/shifters. The chainset is a mountain bike chainset and to obtain clean (a quick click) shifting I've also used the SLX MTB Front Mech. The issue with this set up is that the Road STI Levers doesn't pull ...

Re: Chainset compatibality

Hi Ron, I assume you're still trying to lower the gearing on your Pinnacle Arkrose. Here's the Shimano Compatibility Chart:- http://www.shimano.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/us/index/tech_support/tech_tips.download.-Par50lparsys-0025-downloadFile.html/01)%20Drivetrain%20Compatability%20Chart.p...

Re: Lower Gears!

Hi! Just bought a new bike and joined CTC. Went out a couple of times with my local group and now discover I need lower gears than the new bike came with as standard. Does anyone know the easiest and best way I can acheive some lower gears. The bike I bought is a Pinnacle Arkose 3 and comes with a ...

Re: Lower Gears!

You're absolutely correct a 9 Speed changer will not work properly with a 10 speed cassette!

Re: Lower Gears!

There are a lot of posts about tyre sizes, tyre pressures and even rim sizes but the other important factor of gross weight is often omitted. As me and bike will exceed 100kg then 23m tyres on 17mm rims is certainly not a reasonable option (on the rear wheel). However as 28mm is a well tried option...

Re: Lower Gears!

The rims on the Arkrose are Alexrims CXD26 with an ERTRO of 17mm. I am using 700 x 23c tyres at 100psi on similar rims. It takes significantly less effort riding my bike using narrow tyres at high pressures compared to the original 700 x 35c tyres at 85psi. Like the originator of this thread I am ov...

Re: Lower Gears!

I've now had a quick look at what drive train comes on the Arkrose 3. The Shimano 105 ST-5700 gear/brake STI levers are 2 x 10. Therefore replacing your compact double chainset with a triple on the front would require new (very expensive) gear/brake Shimano ST-5703 STI levers. The front derailleur i...

Re: Lower Gears!

I had the same problem with "off the shelf" bikes. I only took up cycling in my mid 50s and found the gearing on all bikes too high except on mountain bikes. I bought a Specialized Tricross bike 4 years ago. I had to push it up a lot of hills when I was touring. I eventually changed the tr...

Re: A Galaxy for every day of the week.

On disc brake forks the disc brake calipers can stop you fitting mudguards if the bosses are in the "traditional" position at the bottom of the fork near the axle. This is probably why the mudguard stays are attached half way up the fork leg. The other solution is to buy mudguards whose st...

Re: Mixed Ergo/STI levers?

Why are you mixing Ergo & STI Levers? You can use Shimano STI levers with the MTB front mech by increasing the cable pull between the lever and front mech by using a "Jtek Shiftmate" available from SJS Cycles. You need to make sure you buy the correct model of Shiftmate for your applic...

Re: Kinesis Tripster ATR

Thats a pity really, because two years ago I was still building wheels at Spa, including a steady trickle of disc wheels. Colin, I actually bought a pair of your wheels, nice wheels although I wish they had better quality hubs, I don't like loose ball bearings/cones. The photo shows the wheels you ...

Re: Kinesis Tripster ATR

Here's a Tripster I built nearly 2 years ago. I had been looking for an off the shelf frameset that I could use to build a bike for touring with disc brakes. The Kinesis Tripster fitted my requirements because it also had a short Top Tube, I find traditional "touring frames" too long becau...
