Re: Replacing 26t inner with 22t

Assuming that you are using a Shimano chainset you can access Shimano technical documents online:- http://techdocs.shimano.com/techdocs/index.jsp Search for the "tech doc" relating to the chainset that you are planning on using as a replacement. The tech doc will specify which front mechs ...

Re: Evans discount

To find out if Evans will give you a discount, phone them and ask.

Sorry, but what is "BSO"?

Re: Head Torch wanted

I'm assuming that you are looking for one to use for cycling on roads not mountain biking in woods and off road. I use one of these :- http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=70576&_$ja=kw:lezyne+power+drive|cgn:lezyne+power+drive|cgid:3667911916|tsid:40896|cn:Chain+Reaction-UK-P-...

What sort of bike do you want? A road racer, tourer, hybrid, mountain bike etc... [/attachment] I've currently got two common usage bikes, plus a fixed wheel. There's a 12 year old Campag equipped "racer" which is showing signs of age and wear. I could swap components onto a Cross frame o...

What sort of bike do you want? A road racer, tourer, hybrid, mountain bike etc... 18 months' ago when I wanted to buy a light weight touring bike with disc brakes nothing was available. Now there are a number of cyclo cross bikes with disc brakes which would fit the bill. 18 months ago I looked at t...

Re: Disc brake guidance

I have a mixture of centre lock and 6 bolt rotors fitted on 6 wheelsets of both 26" and 700c sized wheels. There is no difference in performance whether the rotors are attached to the hubs by the centre lock or 6 bolt system. As stated in another reply with centre lock rotors the rotor is attac...

Re: Aldi torque wrench

With such large sockets this torque wrench set would appear to be for a motor car not a bicycle.

Re: How long before disc brakes are standard on road bikes?

Ever since I got a mtb with disc brakes I knew that they were the brakes I wanted on all of my bikes. They are far superior in braking power than rim brakes, they don't wear out the rims and I can easily swap wheels between bikes because I have the same size rotor on 3 bikes now. My mtb and hybrid h...

Re: QR rear wheel with disc-tips for reinstalling

Before removing the rear wheel shift onto the smallest sprocket on the rear cassette. When refitting the wheel have the rear gear shifter in the highest gear (equivalent to the smallest sprocket). This makes it easier to guide the rear wheel into the dropouts because the chain/rear derailleur will b...

Re: Advice on a better bike

andrewjoseph, Are the forks on your bikes Titanium and made by Burls or are they made of another material or bought in by Burls? Do you know why the disc calipers are mounted on the front of the fork blades? Do you know who built the wheels for your bikes? 700c disc wheels are generally custom made...

Re: Recommend me a bike please

A cyclo cross bike or a light weight hybrid could be a good compromise. Personally I also prefer disc brakes compared to the canti lever brakes that are often fitted to cyclo cross bikes. There are now a few cyclo cross bikes with disc brakes, I would have the Specialized Tricross (Disc) if I hadn't...

Got the hybrid version in the end as thats all they had in the shop! Im still not convinced that the altura arc panniers I had would mount on both sides of the standard rack as the clips on the back of them are rather thick. At least not without staggering them... I don't understand the issue you t...

Re: Tortec velocity

I use one of these racks for lightwieght touring with Altura panniers fited on each side.

The top of the rack is narrower than others but that's exactly what I wanted because I don't want to carry luggage on the top of the rack.

Re: If I order a bike and mudguards from Evans will they fit

Before you go to collect the bike from Evans give them a call to check that they have changed the tyres and fitted the mudguards that you want/ordered. The bike arrives at the shop from the Evans warehouse with the standard tyres and no mudguards, the shop mechanic then assembles the bike and fits a...
