Re: How to calculate metres travelled per crank revolution?

Why not work it out for your specific bike? Measure the circumference of your rear tyre (sit on bike and roll for one complete revolution, measure distance travelled. Repeat for more accuracy). Work out your gearing ratio(s) i.e chain ring teeth dived by chosen cassette ring teeth Multipy to get dis...

Re: cycliing and ageing

I've often pondered the reason why so many elderly men (that includes me) wear beige clothing. I suspect that their clothing is being bought by their spouse so that they form a neutral accompaniment to whatever bright colours their spouse chooses to wear. I hope that's not sexist. That is extraordi...

Re: cycliing and ageing

That fits with my experience. Most of our club riders are older (50-80) and all are fully alert, fit and engaged with life. I recently found myself (63) sprinting against a 79 year old to be the first to the next speed limit sign and thinking, "it would be brilliant to be as fit as him when I a...

Re: Ascent replacement? Strava?

I use https://www.plotaroute.com/ . Not only can you upload your tracks/elevation profiles, it's very good for creating routes. If you use the free version you are quite limited in the number of private routes you can have. Paying a small annual subscription means you can hide your routes from publi...

Would a soft, folding helmet help? These will be shipping soon.

Re: Tree ID

I have seen hornbeam looking a bit like that but I'd need to see leaves to be a bit surer. +1 for possible hornbeam. They typically have a symmetrical shape with a point to the crown, upward angled branches and a rather curved profile at the base of the crown. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/ima...

Re: Tweed Valley Railway Path and beyond

Thanks all. I get a pretty clear idea. East of Peebles to Innerleithen seems OK, westward the old railway line is really a walking route. That helps my planning.

Cheers

Tweed Valley Railway Path and beyond

Anyone familiar with cycling in the Borders here? I am aware that there is supposed to be an offroad cycle path from PeeblIes to Innerleithen as outlined at https://cyclescottishborders.com/route/tweed-valley-railway-path/. I am planning to lead a group ride eastward abetween these places this sumer...

Re: Old is new again, speedo

Looking at bike computers on ebay I came across this speedo in the link, They say things come back into fashion if you wait, mind you it would look the part on a Toggle chain bike. Re: Added memory eTrex 20

As with Sweep, my maps are kept on an 8GB card in order to keep the built-in memory free. I've tried a few times to load tracks etc onto the card but as far as I know, it just won't work. The only way around it that I can think of, is to back up what tracks you do have onto a pc/laptop and then del...

Re: Added memory eTrex 20

Thanks for the replies. The reason I was looking for extra memory was if I look to load up one route and look at the available space there doesn't seem to be a lot. I have only been using it for day rides and Audaxes but was thinking of a two week tour this Summer so was going to load about 20 diff...
