Re: Converting .csv file to .gpx?

The .CSV on the OS benchmarks site has alpha grid sheet, and numeric eastings and northings in 3 separate columns, so I had to concatenate these as text to get a 10 character OSGB reference in a 4th column. I did this in Excel but I assume Numbers can do the same. In Excel, I can add in missing lea...

Re: Batch conversion .csv file to .gpx?

If this is from the source you were previously asking about, they provided an option to download in gpx format. Ian This source is the OS https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/benchmarks/ and is only available in .csv :( (12.5Mb for the whole of the UK!) The other source https://www.bench-marks.org.uk/ ...

Converting .csv file to .gpx?

I've got a 3.9Mb .csv file of Ordnance Survey Benchmark locations and identifying info. Is it possible to convert that to .gpx so I can upload it to an iPhone and one of its mapping apps? I stumbled across this https://mygeodata.cloud/converter/csv-to-gpx and noted the coordinates column labels woul...

Re: Online multi location mapping - old dog requires new tricks advice, please

Forgive me for being thick regarding mapping software. But why doesn't the OP merely carry an OS map with the places marked in a pencil cross? Seems a lot simpler to me. Ps. There is at least one benchmark not on the Snowdonia map. I thought the resolution/ detail too poor to be useful. Perhaps zoo...

Re: Online multi location mapping - old dog requires new tricks advice, please

OK I decided I needed to mark the locations of all the secondhand record shops in East Anglia on my iPhone, so I unlocked the Maps+ app to see if it helps. Good news: It will upload multiple benchmarks from your site - I used your benchmarks site to create a .GPX file of all the benchmarks within 2...

Re: Online multi location mapping - old dog requires new tricks advice, please

This iPhone app may be worth a look: Maps+ (pasting "mapspl.us" into the browser gets you to their website) It claims to be able to import multiple locations from a .gpx file, and then show them on an iPhone map. It talks about setting up proximity-based reminders so you get an alert when...

Re: Online multi location mapping - old dog requires new tricks advice, please

For what it's worth, Ordnance Survey provides a free data file containing the locations of over 500,000 "lower order" benchmarks with detailed info for each one including a textual description of exactly where it is - see screenshot below. Unfortunately that dataset won't be so easy to ge...

Re: Online multi location mapping - old dog requires new tricks advice, please

Latest update - after selecting all the the benchmarks within a 30km radius of home (453 items) on http://www.bench-marks.org.uk I found a "Download to GPS" button at the bottom of the page :) Which loaded a /gpx file onto my desktop. But then I couldn't figure a way of getting that to my...

Re: Online multi location mapping - old dog requires new tricks advice, please

What I'd do, would be to find them on an OS map and plot a route to the ones you'd like to visit on any one day. I know you don't want a route or a track, but does it matter at all that you have one? No-one forces you to follow it. Just have it to see. You don't have to follow the track, just have ...

NB https://gridreferencefinder.com loads in the centre of a new Safari window :D and in Firefox it is squeezed up against the edge of the left hand side :(

Re: Online multi location mapping - old dog requires new tricks advice, please

You can convert between OS grid reference and Lat/Long using things like https://gridreferencefinder.com but only on a one at a time manual basis. I've not seen and batch tools and you don't seem to have any source suited to batch import anyway. But the export tools on the site have the ability to ...

Re: Online multi location mapping - old dog requires new tricks advice, please

Unfortunately Mick F, I don't want to plot any routes . I know how to get to the places - and that's not the point. I just want to be able to somehow transfer a load of multiple OS grid references onto my iPhone via whatever convenient mapping software, so that if I'm passing and feel like stopping ...

Re: Online multi location mapping - old dog requires new tricks advice, please

Many thanks for all your replies :) But I'm overwhelmed and don't understand. Again  There's a long list of OS Grid Refs (sadly not in order of distance from my Postcode) on http://www.bench-marks.org.uk Which I would like to load onto my phone somehow and give alerts when just out and about p...

Online multi location mapping - old dog requires new tricks advice, please

I'd like to plot at least a hundred or so location points on my iPhone SE, within a 30 mile radius of home. These will be OS benchmark sites, or any other points of interest. So when I'm out randomly wandering on the bike I can be alerted to such things when in their vicinity. So there's no route pl...

Re: New Route Planner

Ah - that's just an update lag; the info was fixed in OSM about two days after cycle.travel last updated its data. (Coincidentally I fixed it in OSM because I remembered your posting and no-one local had fixed it!) I'm due to run a cycle.travel update in the next week or so, once I've got the eleva...
