And www.carboncycles.cc do offer lots of choice re wheel size, steerer type, rake etc - but unfortunately not mudguard attachment friendly. I suppose this may actually be a universal thing with geometry adjusted after market forks due to the extra length of the legs required? (althought the Surly forks mentioned appear to have a crown attachment?)
gregoryoftours wrote: 6 Jun 2024, 7:59pm I just don't really get the reasoning for going to the trouble and expense of replacing a suspension fork for a rigid on an e-bike, especially for a general use bike. I don't see how the negative points for a suspension fork apply in that case, namely weight and bobbing when pedaling out of the saddle. There is the argument for simplicity over extra complication and servicing cost of a suspension fork, but it's on the bike already so get your money's worth out of it at least, I'd say.
My reasons in addition to the simplicity you mentioned, are an 'aesthetic' and because It's possible and I'm willing to pay for it. But it's all still at the consideration phase and may well accept the bike as is - as the scale of difference may not be worth the game as mentioned/intimated previously by posters PH and SimonCelsa

Suspension forks to rigid fork conversion 2024

Am awaiting delivery of a Cube e-bike which will become my utility/shopper/hauler. It has cheapo SR Suntour NVX30 Coil, 63mm forks which I'd perhaps like to consider replacing with rigid forks - just a crazy serial customiser's thought at this point

I believe these forks have a non tapered 1⅛" steerer and are housed in a 'modern fashion/oversized' 1½" headtube.

Quick release fork ends would be preferable (to match the rear wheel) - but it would not be a problem for me to rebuild a front wheel with a thru axle hub if necessary.

Would need to accommodate 55mm tyres and mudguards and disc brakes.

What parameters need to be considered with regard to geometry and other dimensions?

Any suggestions as to sourcing such forks?

I don't use this particular app but I hate auto-rotation and auto switch to landscape for mapping apps. If the app supports it and does not have a "disable it" option I wont use the app.

MapOut briefly put in a rotate option, the authors got "a lot of feedback" and very shortly afterwards an update put is a "disable it" option.

It can be challenging with apps but just because it doesn't do the exact thing that meets your requirements does not mean it's broken.

It's understandable not everyone will want the same functionability of any given app - most of us are still humans

And the built in ability to choose certain functions and be able to disable them is always most welcome.

On my iPhone it seems one can lock portrait or landcsape mode in any app👍

Re: OS Maps app iPhone not auto rotating to landscape mode

I too contacted OS - had a reply from them today -
The landscape feature is currently not available on the App* for phone but it is a great suggestion and a good feature to have. I understand that this is far from ideal, so I have raised this as feedback to our app development team. Suggestions and ideas on how to improve the app and its usability are always appreciated and taken into consideration when planning the future of the app.

Customer feedback is extremely valuable to us, so I appreciate and thank you for the time you've taken to pass on your suggestion. We rely on customers such as yourself to provide us with a look into how the app is being used and how the app can be bettered.
(My bold)

* Note it does auto rotate on an iPad IOS 🤔

As mentioned landscape mode is user achievable by a manual two finger twist, so only a minor inconvenience - and maybe one day . . . ?

Does your sub include access to any form of support?
One would like to assume so - I'll check (I hadn't considered that🤭)

Re: OS Maps app iPhone not auto rotating to landscape mode

IPhone and iPad both up to date with latest IOS 17.4.1

OS Maps on both devices up to date running 5.0.6(135)

Nothing in the Settings on the iPad or iPhone showing any differences.

And nothing in the much more extensive app Settings with any differences or any mention of map rotation behaviour

OS Maps app iPhone not auto rotating to landscape mode

I subscribe annually to OS Maps Premium and have versions on Mac desktop, iPad and iPhone 15 Pro.

On the iPhone, the map will not auto rotate to landscape mode when physically turning the phone.

Whereas it does on the iPad. This seems strange. The map can be rotated manually using two fingers on the screen to twist it - but that's not ideal when cycling with the phone mounted on a handlebar bracket.

The iPhone auto rotates other mapping apps and all other apps where it is to be expected - and therefore the auto rotate lock is not engaged.

My Googling fu (or annoyingly miserable lack of it) doesn't provide any info, nor confirm such behaviour isn't just me.

Anyone else using OS Maps and an up to date iPhone 15 Pro? Any advise would be most grateful 🙏

Thanks. We're looking at a light (relatively) e bike for my wife for shortish (say up to 25-30 miles) rides. Would a 250Wh Battery be sufficient for a light rider over generally flat terrain? I'm keen to keep the bike as wieldy as possible as she will be moving away from a lightweight hybrid.
My Boardman HYB 8.9E weighs 15.5kg out of the box, according to the spec sheet. Its 250Wh battery easily does 36 miles on flat terrain - as the e-assist is not needed a lot of the time, due to the bike rolling along nicely on the flat. It's light enough to feel like a normal bike- and the Fazua motor is quiet and the assistance when required feels like a gentle tailwind. I bought a second battery, which doesn't weight that much in the scheme of e-bike things - if I ever wanted to go further.

Recently I added a 250w German 'panzer like' Cube Reaction Pro bike with a Bosch Gen 4 CX 85Nm motor and a 625W battery to the Deliquium stable. It's scarily powerful, in fact I've dialled down the power available. It will get me up the Llanberis Pass without a bead of perspiration being created.

So to my mind YES, 250w is plenty for steep hills.

My other e-bike has a 50Nm Fazua motor - and that too help me climb the Welsh hills, but requires somewhat more effort on my part - but still makes it easy :)

Being more of a techno Luddite navigator than I'd like. I do have a Sigma ROX 2 brand new surplus to requirements.

Could that be of any use to you? £45
