Re: Dutch style facilities in the UK
I've seen those sweeping machines being used on the Bristol and Bath Cycle Path.

Re: Incorrect Ballot Papers
OK I'm a new member ... joined just before Christmas .... ie AFTER they found out about the errors in the system.
So make that 16 if you like.... (no duplicate name on ours).
As far as I'm aware I took out family membership for all 5 members of the family (3 children 9-15) - certainly gave in all our details and DOB's etc. We have a voting slip with just one name on it. We have sent off an email but since he is out of office until the 4th Jan we haven't had a reply.
Can't say that it's a great first impression of how organised the CTC is that they can get this wrong AFTER they know there is a problem in the system.

As promised I said I would report on the progress with any ballot errors.
Other than the printer error with family members described above the total number of other errors notified to us to date is 15.

Bike Breakfast - activity suggestions?
I'm helping out at a Bike Breakfast in a couple of weeks time - other than slow bike races, have you any suggestions for the children to do on their bikes in the playground or on the playing field before school starts?

Re: Laid out in head-on!
Looking at the track both cyclists take - would the answer be to make the path wider at that point, or would they still carry on anyway into the path of oncoming cyclists?

Re: Chain getting caught on frame
Sounds like chain suck to me ... that instant sudden halt. I heard lots of reasons for why it happened and almost learnt to live with it... that feeling of stop pedaling instantly you could feel it happening. Then I changed my chain... and it stopped. The problem had been there almost from when I bought the bike from the shop and it had been returned a couple of times to the shop about it as well.

Re: bicycle training
Cycle training should not be left to parents to organise, it should be available to all. Kids whose parents can afford to sort out some training for little Emily to entertain her for a few hours probably aren't going to actually let her ride on the road afterwards anyway.
Whereas Chantel, down the road in the estate, her mum isn't going to pay for something like that to "entertain" her child, she can just go out on her bike with her mates on the road for free.
Cycle training needs to get to both of those extremes and all the ones in between. By organising it through school it becomes a normal thing to do, and most pupils would do it. However it needs to be done by a qualified trainer, rather than trying to get a teacher to fit it in around their other work.
