Re: Dangerous groups on Sportives

What can anyone say? It creeps me out just to have A.N.Other cyclist ride up alongside and stay there briefly to pass the time of day because I don't know what he will do if there isa sudden need to single up. Will he go ahead or drop back? What ought he to do? - Never having been a club rider I don...

Re: Bradley Wiggins

I don't really follow sport - I usually watch the tour for the scenery as much as anything, but I'd need to be living in a lamasery to miss this. I'm feeling a bit sad over it. It was nice to believe that Wiggins was the squeaky clean leader of a clean sporting movement. Now it appears that he proba...

Re: IGH for touring?

I had a few minutes to spare, so started to look around for the Nexus hub. They're quite hard to find, apparently.
SJS appear to have some, but wont be able to supply the cassette joint till after Christmas...

Re: ...any good links regarding legislation about parking a bicycle

IMO the next to last is probably the most useful, containing, as it does, a few pearls from thirdcrank. Of these, the one I would draw your attention to is the last one, to the effect that obtaining redress for lost / damaged bikes and locks could easily cost more than the value of the items in ques...

IGH for touring?

Obviously not questioning the suitability of Rohloff, but as I probably can't afford one, are any of the lesser offerings considered sufficiently reliable for Domestic / European touring? And if so, which one/s?

Thanking you for your help with the intermittent evolutionary process that is my bike!

Re: ...any good links regarding legislation about parking a bicycle

the rules and regulations on parking at bicycle stands in England and Wales which are in open areas on private land . I think your question contains a clue to the likely answers, now rubricated! In general, I think the owner of said private land could feel fully entitled to take whatever steps were...

Re: Windows 10 - Can I relax now?

As the dut off date approached I did wonder if I was missing out, and looked into the possibilities of downloading and rolling back as suggested by mercalia. As far as I could tell from my own efforts any entitlements to free downloads were restricted to the one machine. As this one will be replaced...

Re: Rubbish

In a word, packaging! When I was a lad  and helped with the shopping (regularly, before anyone starts!) we just didn't get much packaging in a typical week. We had a dedicated shopping bag for dirty vegetables, string net bags for much of the rest of the stuff from the market and a few tins. a...

[I'd like to see it done right too,but the problem is this is the UK :? Point taken  But I'm curious now. It's surprising to find contributors to this forum advocating increased restrictions on cycle use. Are you playing Devil's Advocate here, (generally a useful thing IMO), or has inconsider...

Re: USA elections

Atleast under Trump the USA will mind its own business and stop fighting in other people countries reducing them to rubble? Maybe a few years of Trump not a bad thing? If he can get Mexico to partition the continent, at their own expense, without brandishing the big stick, then I'll accept that I h...

Re: Shifters not working after tightening clamp bolt -Help!

If you have changed the stem then this is likely to have altered the cable run. A higher or longer stem might need longer cables to achieve the desirable gentle bends. A shorter or lower stem - you might get away with the existing, but you might also find that excess cable between bars and frame sto...

Re: Incredible secure public bike parking in Czech

I'd be delighted to discover something like that next time I go to the Station. But if part of the price is that I can no longer park on the street (and I personally do make an effort to minimise inconvenience) when I go into town then I'll probably drive. I expect some convenience in exchange for u...

Re: Getting into Cycling / loosing weight

I think many people find that a combination of taking care with your diet and taking some form of regular exercise works better than either alone - as long as you keep it up. I don't intend to comment on food, but as far as exercise is concerned, Its obviously going to be a good idea to make sure th...
