Re: Bottle dynamo noise

Velorum, it looks to me as if the axis of rotation of your dynamo is not on a radius of your wheel. If this is so then the pulley will be scrubbing sideways as it turns. Aligning it accurately may reduce the noise (and wear). WD 40 and a better bracket and a little care can reduce the other problem...

Re: Bottle dynamo noise

The Mighty Sparta has a front light only dynamo set up - reat lights are LED - a good arrangement I think.

Re: Bottle dynamo noise

When refurb time comes I may well consider a hub dynamo set up.

Bottle dynamo noise

I have little experience of dynamo's........ The bottle dynamo fitted to the Mighty Sparta is awfully noisy - pedestrian's turn round to see what that strange noise is. Should I be messing about with the mounting bracket on the fork to reduce the pressure or leave well alone? http://i90.photobucket....

Re: ...how old were these bikes?

I bought a Raleigh Superbe roadster with rod brakes brand new in 1981. Wish I still had it...... The rod brakes on the Superbe were truly awfull - but as I never acheived a great speed due to the weight of the bike and my average daily beer (and other) consumtion this was not a problem. I converted ...

Re: Wokingham to Frimley by train?

First Great Western are more relaxed about bikes in rush hour than SWT - probably best to use them to go to Farnborough North or Blackwater from Wokingham, both stations are within a mile of Frimley. Would you consider cycling all the way? I have thought about cycling all the way but quite frankly ...

Re: Storage in unheated garage and shed

My garage gets very cold but is very dry. Good ventilation is the answer I think - there is something like a 1/4" gap down each side of the metal door at the front which I leave like that to allow a free flow of air. I keep books in there too and they dont seem damp.

Thank god for that, I thought that it was only me.

I am particularly worried about the dress sizes.

Wokingham to Frimley by train?

I live about 6 miles from Wokingham, Berkshire and work in Frimley, Surrey. I believe that SW trains run through Wokingham and head out towards Guildford and Waterloo. I have looked at the Railtrack website and it mentions cycles not being allowed on some trains during peak times to Waterloo (I thin...

Re: Do we really need all these gears?

Ive had a number if multi speed deraillier bikes - tourers / mountain - but always come back to and prefer single or multi speed hubs. The SA 5 speed I fitted to one of my early Moultons was a real pain to keep adjusted (two levers) and felt odd in the lower ratios. All the 3 spd SA's have been faul...

The mighty Sparta (single speed coaster of course) and I could do with such an outing so negotiations are under way here - all being well I will be joining in.
