Yep. You're right.

Rohloff Rules OK.

but it still costs £650.

it still gives 500% ratios

TOO MUCH FOR ME

see http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t ... ht=rohloff

Hang on a sec!

I think Rohloff are wonderful! Honest!

BUT (and I've said this till I'm blue in the face) 500% is too much for me.

£650 is also too much for me.

I ride a Campag Mirage Triple with a low of 30 front and 23 rear, and a top of 52 front 12 rear.

If I gear for a low I want, my top with a Rohloff would be 200 odd inches!

A waste of money and techology for me.

Please don't think I'm anoyed or upset, or hate hub gears. A normal derrailiyur(still can't spell that word) can be custom built at the drop of a hat, cheaply and easily for any ratio you might want. And I've never had one fail.

Regards,

Oh yes, and after CTC Forum have asked me to log in, I don't have to log in again, no matter how many messages I leave, unless I close Safari.

This is getting too difficult.

Fact:
I log in when I first enter CTC Forum, try to leave a message, and have to log in again.

Other MB/Forums I belong to don't seem to exhibit this phenomenom.(Have I spelt that right?)

My cookies are set to 'only sites I navigate to'.

I doesn't matter really, all I'll have to do, is not log in until CTC Forum want me to! Simple!

The title of this thread has been used by me months ago!

I liked the idea of a Rohloff, but the 500% difference was too much.

Please see http://www.ctcforum.org.uk/viewtopic.ph ... ht=rohloff

There's a long thread about it all, take a look.

The Raven looks a good bike though!

Hi Chriss,

Main roads and Sustrans are a contradiction in terms.

I've done JOG to LE in '94, and LEJOGLE only last July. I stayed on the shortest route I could get, taking in YHA as I went. Mind you, I live on the Cornwall/Devon border and have a sister in Wrexham.

My route was:
LE
via Truro, St Austell and Liskeard to Gunnislake
via Tavistock, Okehampton, Crediton and Taunton to Street
via Bristol, the Old Severn Bridge, the Wye Valley to Welsh Bicknor
via Leominster, Ludlow, Shrewsbury to Wrexham
via Chester, Frodsham, Wigan, Preston, Garstang to Arnside
via Kendal and Penrith to Carlisle
via Hawick, Selkirk and Galashiels to Edinburgh
via Forth Road Bridge, Kinross and Perth to Pitlochry
over the Grampians to Inverness
via The Black Isle, crossing the Cromarty and Dornoch Firths to Helmsdale
via Latheron to JOG

and back ....

I kept to A and B roads, but with the occasional major A road, and followed Sustrans over the Grampians instead of the modern A9.

890 miles or so each way. It's difficult to do it much shorter.

Only took 3 weeks ....

Hope that helps!
