Re: First ride in four months

My "get up and go" has got up and gone.

I won't mention the word, but it's taking me some time to get going after it.
I was fine at first, but it's difficult now.

Planning on a ride on Wednesday ......... weather should be ok then. All I need is my "get up and go" to return.

There's supposed to be a Yellow Weather Warning today and the next couple of days too, but it's only drizzling with rain and hardly a breath of wind, despite the warnings. Fingers crossed, I'm out and riding on Wednesday. :D

Re: First ride in four months

20odd miles yesterday .............. under my own steam.
Main issue is that I was COLD even doing the effort entirely with muscles.

Lotsa wind-chill despite the temp being +4degC.

PS: Covid negative.

Re: LEJOG 2024

PS:

I did a Grand Tour.
Took the train to Inverness, and rode across west and over the Bealach to Applecross and then via Torridon, then worked my way over to Skye and down through SW Scotland and over the North Pennines to the North Yorkshire coast, then west via Rosedale Chimney and Ripon and into Lancashire. Then south into Wales and down the west coast via Snowdonia and SE through mid Wales and then south back home to Cornwall.

Have you done the double? LEJOGJOGLE?
What about doing an End2End on a Raleigh Chopper! :D

One of our number on here lives in York, and he did a Yetey ........... York to LE, then to JOG, and then back to York.

I've ordered some Dia Compe DT friction levers as I have them on another bike and like the feel of them.
Got Ergo's/Brifters on my other machines.
Happy riding everyone

This is the way ahead.
I'm off riding later this morning on Mercian with Chorus Ergos. They are very good, but my heart belongs to DT shifters.

Re: Bar end or downtube shifters

Having used DT shifters for more years than I care to remember, i have used Ergo since 2004 on one bike and still DT shifters on the other.
Many are the times on the Ergo bike, I've gone down to the non-existent DT shifters!

I've said many times on here, that if and when the Ergos give up, I'll be replacing with DT shifters.

Friction of course!
Friction gives you the choice of any speed combinations you want.
My DT bike (friction) is 10sp triple and works perfectly.

:D :D

I've been in there three times over the years. Get's boring after a while!

I'll be taking Sailor a walk later, and I'll drive us to South Bedford Mines carpark, and then we'll walk up the steep hill to follow the path to Chimney Rock, then do a circuit along the Tamar Trails back to the car.

Re: State Pension

Our combined OAP is 18grand a year. Two of us. I find that generous.

Nothing to stop two or even three OAPs living in the same house. Share the rent and the expenses.

Re: Is there a hole in the universe?

I've been out with a phone and two Garmins.
None of them agree.
Put the same route into BikeHike or BikeRouteToaster, and still no agreement.

With my Garmin Montana, I can tell it the start elevation to calibrate it, but when I get home, it doesn't agree.

Pinch of salt.
Not a hole in the universe.

Re: England to Lapland and back 1951

AndyK wrote: 8 Jan 2024, 12:32pm However that does give me an excuse to mention one of the great epic cycling expedition books, Destination Lapland by Mark Wallington, best known for 500-Mile Walkies and The Missing Postman. Mark set out from his home in Hertfordshire intending to cycle all the way to the Arctic Circle (via said ferry). After many trials, tribulations and mechanicals [SPOILER ALERT!] he got as far as Newcastle before giving up and going home. But he wrote the book anyway.
Missing Postman.

Excellent movie.
Watched it a couple of times. :D
Downloaded it and have on SSD hard drive.
