Re: Triple/ mech compatibility.

On the move - there are effectively two middle positions - a short nudge on the lever will click it over from one to the other or vice versa, trimming the FD to stop chain rub. All that is needed and works very well.

Enigma, although reference to alterations and repairs has dropped off their newly revamped website.

Re: Triple/ mech compatibility.

My 9 speed triple set up with XT 22/32/44 chainset, XT rear derailleur and Tiagra front derailleur works very well with Tiagra STI's - the only thing we had to do was swap the bottom bracket spacers - one on the drive side, two on the opposite side (as Bruce suggests). The FD was set as close as pos...

Re: Horizon upgrades.

I've upgraded my 520 Reynolds Horizon over the years - Deore MTB triple chainset and Deore XT derailleur, kept the STI shifters, all works fine. Tektro cantis, Mavic A319 wheels. Bought mine new about 2008.

Re: Merlin Cycles

I'll second that - I've bought from them a lot and they're my online retailer of choice, keen prices, super fast service, never any issues. Their own brand clothing, of which I have bibs, l/s jersey and sundry warmers is great value for money.

Re: Long distance and touring GPS help (purchase)

It's frustrating that we can't buy something which just works as a good map and has turn by turn navigation ... The newly released MIO Cyclo 200 is just that - 3.5 inch colour screen, OSM maps, tbt, and that’s it - no training, no Bluetooth or WiFi. Aimed at the leisure and touring cyclist. List at...

Re: Long distance and touring GPS help (purchase)

I suggest you deinstall it then reinstall it. Then simply add the map you want. Make sure location is on so the gps is working and go outside to let it acquire the satellites. Then, you should see the map. Pressing the gunsite thigy should centre the map on your location. Have a look at the files o...

Re: Long distance and touring GPS help (purchase)

(edited down) - Its brilliant, really great with audible turn by turn OsmanD instructions and a very clear map. The bugbear with smartphones has always been battery life but this is no longer a problem. I also have a 12000 maH auxilliary battery that I can carry in my bar bag and recharge on the mo...

Re: Long distance and touring GPS help (purchase)

. This just shows the versatility of using a smart phone, one change I might make is to put it in a lifeproof waterproof battery case. I find my garmin very primitive in comparison apart from the battery life, if the phone had the same battery life it would be no contest. I am finding that my new £...

Re: Dual Head presta/Shraeder adapter

Topeak TwinHead Kit - bought one a few years ago for my SKS pump, top quality, all metal head and lever. The old hose was perishing and the SKS head was a pain - fitted the new hose to the base with supplied connector and job done.

Re: Cycling Magazines

Even up to the mid 2000's, touring and camping had good coverage, and I bought my Van Nich Amazon on the back of their 'bike of the year' award in 2007, I think it was. Since then, the sportive boom has come along and swept away most of that, but it does feature some good routes. Perhaps with gravel...

Re: Cycling Magazines

But you can't put a price on a Ned Boulting column! Bought the mag for donkeys years - on subscription its half the cover price - and, whilst it doesn't have much to do with touring anymore, there are still plenty of day rides I can dream about doing one day. Tried Cycling Active recently, but that ...

Re: Lugs breaking on Garmin products seems to be nothing unu

Mounting lugs on Mio's fail regularly as well - its not beyond the wit of man to design this out - that they don't says to me that it is a deliberate ploy to extract more money out of what are overpriced products to start with. Sale of Goods act provides cover for up to six years in England and Wale...

Re: Tektro CR520 Brake Set-up

They come with a selection of varying thickness washers - it can take some time to work out the best combination of these either side of the brake block itself to arrive at a good spacing. Mine are a different make-up front and rear to achieve the same offset from the rim - is this what you are refe...
