Re: Altus 10 shifter problem
I've taken the cable off and been able to push the cage all the way over to the large ring, so it's obviously mean to go that far. The shifter doesn't seem to be able to pull the cable any further to pull the cage over. I've never dealt with these shifters before so I don't know how they're meant to work. The rear shifter clicks it's way round to go up a gear then 'pings' back to drop down (sorry about the technical phrases used there
). The front one does the same, but only to one position (the second ring). Do they work differently from each other?

Altus 10 shifter problem
Hello. I'm trying to fix an old MTB for a friend. He's dug his bike out of the barn it's been sitting in for years and I'm getting it road worthy for him. It's all fine except for one niggling thing. The front derailleur (Shimano Altus 10) will only move from the small cog to the middle, no further. It's as if it's only meant to be twin rings at the front, not three. Is it me? Is the shifter stuck? Is it meant to move up further?
Any help very gratefully received.

Re: Chav driver gets his just deserts
Frankly I'm shocked and appalled at some of the replies on here...
No one has mentioned it's desserts not deserts!

Re: Bike postage to Europe
Hello Patrick. I actually live about 40kms from Pau and have asked a company in the UK to post a tandem to me here. They said it would cost around 60 pounds. Just today I have ordered 2 tag-along 'bikes' (I run a bike hire business) from the UK and they are charging me 50 pounds to post them. Now I don't know if they are using a courier or post, but when they come I'll let you know which it was and whether they arrived undamaged, if you like.

Re: Introductions - tell us about yourself
Hello all. My name's Dave, originally born and bred (and cycled an awful lot) in London. I now live in South West France where I now run a cycle hire shop amongst other things. I'm an illustrator and designer by trade and used to do the odd cartoon and illustration for the (then) Daily Cyclist run by the London Cycling Campaign, also 'Transport 2000' which has also changed it's name! I've recently returned to cycling after an absence of a few years, while we got settled here and now cycle almost every day. It beats taking your life in your hands commuting from the East End to King's Cross I can tell you!
I have an 'Alves' custom built racing bike which is about 20 years old but my favourite is a 'Giant' hybrid.
I have a trip in mind for next year to cycle from Bury St Edmunds with a friend who lives there, to here in SW France. I've only got a year to get into training for it!

Re: Getting away with blue murder
Here in France they are seriously talking about confiscating lawbreaker's cars. Most people seem to agree with the idea.

Re: Col Du Tourmalet
Hello there.
If you want to get a decent view, I suggest getting there at least the day before, if not earlier. The summit will be heaving two days before with hundreds of camper vans. I know because I don't live far away.
Then again, on a bike you could squeeze in anywhere!
