It's time for Europe to step up, for sure.
Spot on!
Now it's a question will we stop the march of tyrants or a case of as Pete75 wants to just let the Russians have us as well as them.
These are dark times for Europe unless it can get itself truly united, and I count the UK as part of that unification,it's time for real leadership.
I never said that, and your view that Russia will invade NATO members in Europe is pure fantasy. Still some people need a bogeyman to frighten the children.
Of Ukraine,you said:-
Yes, leave them to the Russians.
You approved the first of many of Putin's steps, this "bogeyman" is for real,it may take a few years for Putin to rearm but make no mistake he'll keep chipping away at eastern Europe then his ambitions may grow.
And Trump is of a similar mind,Canada,Greenland,Panama, who's next?

You may think it an impossibility, but from what the world is witnessing since Trump came to power all bets are off,as someone said "we're either at the table or on the menu" anything could happen to Europe, and I count the UK as part of Europe,if we don't rearm massively and soon Europe could very well be "on the menu".
The USA has no longer any "special agreement" with the UK,though it may have with Russia, not for four years at least and a lot can happen in that time with the dictator Trump trying to tear up the US constitution and become dictator in chief.

EDIT:- to make it clear in case you've forgotten what's going on in Europe Russia and the US presently https://youtu.be/rKBM2kS6B8o?si=e5BaKxGhKidYiHjC

EDIT 2:- further edited for clarity

^^ This. Those that think the unthinkable can not happen are in for a shock. The shock might take time to arrive but a patient adversary will just keep patiently chipping away at things and take their opportunities to advance.
Correct,I wouldn't put nothing past Putin or Trump, both are despotic dictators high on the drug of power the most destructive of all drugs.
It seems in the past 80 years we've learned nothing as history begins to repeat itself.

Just listening to Zelensky's speech on the BBC.
A man of integrity amongst small boys bullies with too much power, power that could lead to a war throughout Europe.

They've heard of diplomacy, simply decided it's not for them!

Well, yes and no. I'm not convinced that the money WILL be found. Those very few rich who rule will decide and it doesn't really matter to them whether or not Europe survives "as we know it". Actually they'd prefer it NOT to be as it is now.
We'll have to wait and see,I'm trying, for my children and grandchildren's sake,to remain positive as ultimately it'll be them who'll bear the brunt of it all if the worst comes to the worst.
One thing's for sure though Putin 's regime needs to be destroyed, the sooner the better,I feel the people of the US will learn their lesson with Trump's administration over the next four years,at least I hope so not only for them but the rest of the world too.

It can be. Viking Link, which tarnsports electricity between England and Denmark, started operating at the end of 2023.
But more than likely not, used mainly for the domestic market.
It has been in constant use since the end of 2023. I saw them building it, seen the substations. It is there and can send electricity in either direction. There's been an undersea cable between Britian and france for many years, used for transfer of electricity between the two countries.
It's perfectly possible to export electricity, however it's produced. Basically all it needs is a bit of wire and some control gear.
It may be possible but it won't be because presently and in the future electricity is being imported due to France and Denmark's surplus, they would hardly need ours if they have such a surplus, more so in the case of France

Oil and gas are sold in a global market. Even if there were extra supply from UK fracking and even if it was possible quickly (both highly unlikely) it would make no signify difference to global supply.

Extraction cost is irrelevant.

Whereas renewables reduce demand for gas, directly reducing costs if gas prices are high.
Correct, because renewable sourced energy can't be exported, presently at least.

Why do you think that allowing fracking would magically reduce energy costs in the UK?
By increasing supply. Aren't our gas prices stratospheric? But I haven't seen an economic plan of how it compares to North Sea gas fields in terns of extraction costs.

The idea that the UK, or is it Britain, will somehow always do jolly well, because we are a special bunch or people, or there’s something unique about our history that ensures that we’ll always do well, is simply hubris, and we all know what comes after that.

We do do pretty well, despite our small size, the “punching above our weight” thing has a grain of truth in it, or at least has had so far, but we increasingly do “OK, precariously”. Having a sort of Meccano Magazine editorial view of our place in the world won’t help us.

(I strongly recommend reading a few 1950s Meccano Magazines, to get an idea of how deluded the popular British self-image was at the time. The sudden death of British manufacturing that followed must have come as one heck of a shock to anyone who wasn’t looking over the horizon. It’s no wonder that many people who had their formative years in that era still can’t get their heads around the idea that the sun set, and that the workshop of the world moved premises)
Oh absolutely, but that's not to say we give up, roll over and die... what we need right now is money... and no one is going simply give us that without anything in return..
