Re: how would I fit a child seat to a tricycle?

Your other option would be to sit the child in front of you in a center seat.
Something like This or This.
Again it would depend on the shape of the trikes frame/handlebars etc.

Re: Speed going up

I've read that a two wheeled recumbent is ~10% faster than a three wheeled one.
So 14.8 mph x 1.1 = 16.3 mph.
So your about spot on if that speed difference is correct.

I'm slowly getting fitter as I keep finding I'm taking hills in one higher gear.
But I'm thinking of gearing the whole Trice down a little.
Going from 48-36-26 in front to 46-34-22.
Should help with the knees on the hills when the trailer full of shopping.

As I see it there is a serious problem here. If the government target of 2.5% inflation is met, tyres will continually become more inflated and eventually explode, and where will we be then ?

Re: Rebuilding Kermit; options for the weak of leg

An expensive option is to put the internal gears in the front chainring.

A Mountain Drive will give you a 2.5 step down.
So a range of 120"-50" will give you a second range of 50"-20".
No front changer is needed as you change range with your heel.

I don't/cannot wobble on my trike.
But most of the traffic does seem to give me more room.
But I have been thinking of putting on the back of my trailer ......

Tigerbiten wrote:From Market Harborough towards Northampton it's the Brampton Valley Way, NCN6, getting off at Brixworth.
I've cycled it on my Trice Q, Its not a bad surface.
If you don't want to follow the NCN6 then its the A508 to Brixworth, fast but not overly busy, I've cycled Brixworth to Northampton on it.
From Brixworth aim to cut between Northampton and Wellingbourgh.
Brixworth -> Holcot -> Sywell (home) -> Mears Ashby -> Earls Barton -> Grendon -> Bozeat.

Update on route, as I've checked most of it out over the last couple of days.

You want to miss the Oxendon tunnel on the Brampton Valley Way/NCN6.
Wet, potholes filled with water, clay/mud floor which is very slippy.
The back of the trike was slideing sideways going through it, would not like to try it on two wheels or on foot unless you have very good front lights.
I would stay on the A508 out of Market Harbough and get on the Brampton Valley Way at the next enterance after Oxendon.
The Kelmarsh tunnel is just a bit damp in places but not bad.
The going on the Brampton Valley Way is mostly a very good macadam surface, I was hitting ~20mph in some places.

The exit at Station Road, Brixworth, is just before the bridge and is passable on my trike.
If you miss it, you can get off at the next road, but that pull up into Brixworth is slightly steeper.

Then its Brixworth -> Holcot -> Sywell (home) -> Mears Ashby -> Earls Barton -> Grendon -> Bozeat.
Then its Harrold -> Pavenham -> Oakly -> Clapham -> Bedford.
I turned around just after Oakly yesterday, but it was a good day 40 mile for me on mostly quiet back roads and I did ~37 the day before.

Re: CYCLE TRAILERS

Where did you pick up the box, Mick ??

I'm thinking of picking up an alu box for my large carry freedom trailer and was wondering where you got yours.
The one I found online at Trifibre Cases for my size trailer will be ~£250 and was wondering if your supplier was cheaper.

Re: Narrow streets; cars parked both sides

I do find that on my recumbent trike, cars will pull over and stop for me.

I think it's because I'm going to hit with chain rings first and will do more damage than a nice soft tyre ......

CW wrote:If you are able they are better mounted on the handle bars. On my Trice Q I have the the bar end shifters with the ICE mirror mount. Or if you have twist shifters the mirror goes directly into the end of the bar. I understand you have had to make adaptations so it may not be possible. Have you thought of either a helmet mirror or ICE do one that fits onto glasses. I haven`t tried either so dont know what they are like.
I did have lights fitted on the front mud guards but due to the same problems you have they had to come off

My trike handle bars have been modded so I can ride it safely.
Left hand handle bar is cut down by 6" and has a ball joint on the end, so I can fit the socket on the end of my arm onto it.
The righthand side has twin bar end shifters, the outer one misses the mudguard by 1/4".

At the moment I've got them tied down to the front quick releases with a bit of thick cotton, which does cut a lot of the vibration out, so they are slightly better.
But I'm thinking of making a strut to so if that would work better still.

Re: Use the cycle path

Most of the combined pavement/cycle tracks around where I live are only around 4.5' wide.
Which is ok on a bike, but my trike is 3' wide.
So if I use the path then nothing else can .........

Also I need to know that if I start down a path/track away from a road, I can easily get the trike and trailer out at the other end.

Re: Here at last!

I've two Mirrycles mirrors, one each side on top of my front mudguards.
They are ok a slow speed, but unless the road is fairly smooth they vibrate to much to give you a veiw at speeds above ~15mph.

Re: Tyres - Shwalbe Marathons

That's very kind of you!
What make are yours? Can I get another for the front?

I suppose you have a Y Frame Large with 406's on.

They are Kenda Kontact.
They've only done a few 100 miles so look new.

Yes, they are off a large Y frame.
The 20" wheels on it match the Trike wheels so only 1 spare inner tube is needed.

If your small Y frame has the same type tyres, just pinch them as well and get a new set for the Y frame.

Re: Tyres - Shwalbe Marathons

I've a set of 47-406 off my carry freedom trailer that you could have.
I've swopped a couple of my marathon racers onto the trailer and picked up a set of kojak's for the trike.
So these tyres are going spare.
Pick them up if you pass near on the two daughter's tour or you can have them for postage.
