Re: Father of the Bride speeches

I hope that you enjoy the day. Try not to say to much.

One way to shorten the fotb speach is to have his identical twin (me) appear at the window behind him.

But that's irrelevant in the sense that with the possible exception of Vorpal and any other US citizens on here, we are merely interested spectators. In the unlikely event that his supporters are even slightly aware of foreigners' opinions, I fancy they are pleased he's iindifferent to outside opinions and influence.

(I don't know the arrangements for Americans living abroad at election time.)

So is the rest of this discusion. So we may as well make fun of him.

At least I can just say "I have the urge to kill some one" and get taken seriously.

The people who realy need the money have been forgoten in this. The amounts quoted would have paid for a lot to stop the suicides.

So if people put him on ignor it curtails his free speach. Nice one.

There is a sub section in the Campaigning section for helmet discussions. Often referred to as the Ghetto or worse, abandon all hope of sanity of you should start reading all the stuff there. Make up your own mind and keep quiet is my advice.

Re: Newbie looking to commute to work

For somebody starting out on a commute I think that watching Aldi and Lidl for their cycling stuff when they have it (especially when reduced later) is a very good source of gloves and skull caps and other cycling stuff.
I prefer a Headtorch for canal towpaths as I can point the beam where it is needed. Then I only have to think about bike lights to comply with the law, I use a headtorch on the road as well.
For such a short distance waterproof coat and trousers for me would be nice as they would save changing clothes (ride at the correct pace for what you are wearing). You do not have to race to work but can enjoy the "me Time".

The discussion about Hi Vis does not really help the OP at this stage.

I am heartened that somebody who is considering starting to commute is asking for advise from people who should have the experience to help him and avoid expensive mistakes. As opposed to thinking it a sad reflection of the state of cycling.

The best advice I can give is to enjoy the ride when you can.

Apart from a shuffling of personnel it's hard to see any change of direction from what's been done, as opposed to spun. Hinkley and fracking both get the go ahead. You have to admire the way she has hobbled the Three Stooges. Some strange stuff yesterday about state intervention. :?

Who can forget Cameron's 'Big Society' tour de force?
"Today is the start of a deep, serious reform agenda to take power away from politicians and give it to people"

Now not only do we have power but we've taken back control! We've all got so much power now it makes me feel giddy!

Not quite taken back control. The French still control the border

I find that the nasty disagreements and tribalism from the political threads has tended to spill over into the rest of The Tea Shop.

Re: How posh are you?

It is not my definition of Posh, the thing was about Coasters (a few quid) and Dyson cleaners ( hundreds of quid) making people posh.

So if you can afford to spend that much on something that is of some everyday use, then why would not having the disposable income to spend even more on a non useful product make you posh as well?

Or is it only if you have certain items (of lowers values) that makes you posh?

The thing for me is that he had a go at Lizzy Armested for using the same system. Then claims his use is different.
His own words and actions are coming back to haunt him. Lots of others now want to stick the boot in. Possibly he deserves it but is certainly being brought down with a bump.

Re: Physical Effects of Stress

Stress is very tiring as you do not rest properly. It is not always possible to directly do anything about it (as in somebody close being very ill or worse).
It would be worth you seeing your gp for counseling or learning some relaxation exercises.

It was a little tongue in cheek, no cake in there at the moment. :(

Seeing the rain forecast for tomorrow I do not think I will be out on the bike, so the cake will have to wait a while. :(
