Re: Preventing a driver from making their excape

If you restrain somebody using any sort of physical force it is an assault. One of the things that can make an assault lawful, is if it is a lawful arrest. "thirdcrank"

Assault: is a criminal attack intended to take effect physically upon the person of another. Criminal intent is an essential element to make it a crime.

Restraining somebody by force could be Abduction. Which is restraining someone forcibly, against their will and without lawful authority.

If you managed to fulfil the conditions to be charged with either. Assault would take you to the District Court or above. Abduction would take you straight to Sheriff and Jury.

That is my understanding of the law in Scotland maybe it is different in England.

Ordnance Survey Routemaster 1:250,000 maps. 8 cover the UK mainland. But you would have to study the maps to choose your own route.

The list is endless.

I use copper grease for all these applications, and will continue to do so.

Vaseline traditionally is also a good grease for all of these applications.

My interpretation of the legislation is that if this probationary-driver- 6-points-on-licence -since-passing-test situation occurs, the court endorsing the licence sends a notice to the Secretary of State (to all intents and purposes Swansea) which then must revoke the licence and the certificate of passing the test. I cannot see how that is a disqualification for the purposes of driving while disqualified. If the legislation meant that, I should have expected it to say it. * (I am, of course, only speaking about England and Wales, I've no idea about Scotland.) AFAIK there are two types of disqualification, by reason of age and by court order.

"Suspension" of a Driving Licence via accumulation of the requisite number of points is a "Disqualification" under the "Totting Up Procedure"

Re: When should you stop?

The revocation of the licence is a disqualification from driving, and in most cases will occour via a court appearance.
It is most likely that a driver With 9 points on their licence(or pro rata for a newly qualified driver) charged with an offence would not receive a conditional offer but be summonsed to appear at court to answer the charge.

What the court will take most seriously when an unlicenced / disqualified driver appears before them is the driving without insurance element. It is unlikely that they will leave the court without at least another 6 month disqualification for this alone.

Thanks irc
It seems that the chain E-mail warning about the scam has outlived it by several years.

Re: postal scam

This scam with the same company name has been on the go for several years. you'd think that The Royal Mail or Telecomm would have stamped it out by now.

Re: Trackstanding...more like grandstanding

Toe clips and straps can be quite versatile in the range of footwear that can be used with them.

Commuting during the winter I used to use Bogtrotter Wellies. (Now known as Nokians) They fitted OK in regular toeclips.

Touring in Australia my cycling shoes did not agree with my feet and I ended up buying a pair Of RM Williams riding boots which I wore on the rest of the tour. This time I was using the Shimano platform pedals with the plastic toeclips.

In over 30 years of using toeclips I have never felt the need to tighten the straps when cycling.

If GT85 has worked for you for so many years and you have not had any problems. Why change.

Re: Good reliable chain tool to take on road

I have been carrying a Finish Line Chain Pup for about 20 years.
I have never had to use it on the road (if you carry a spare or tool there is a good chance you won't need to use it) but have had plenty of use out of it at home as that's where I do most maintainance.
It has the link extractor, shim to avoid tight link when rejoining, 4,5,6mm Allen keys and spoke keys.

Re: Crank nuts/bolts

If your Allen bolt is the self extracting kind and the "dustcap" part fits the thread of your new crank there should be no problem.

Re: Bikes in movies

A Boy A Girl And A Bike
Mr Polly
Peewee's Big Adventure
Belleville Rendezvous
Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid
Bladerunner
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (Tricycle)
Enemy Of The State

But there's the cliches
A character commandeering a bike to make an escape or take up a pursuit has a very difficult time keeping the bike under control.
Any car chase which happens to pass a cyclist results in the cyclist ending up in a ditch or more likely a canal.
