Re: Fly Tipping Loophole, a cyclists view
+1 Many councils are considering charging for use of recycling and rubbish sites. Are they so short sited that they cant see what effect this will inevitably have on the countryside.
Automatic impoundment of vehicles caught fly tipping would be a good start to discouraging it.
I once came around a bend to see a van with company phone number on it fly tipping in a lane it looked like household rubbish not realated to the companies business to me.
.I phoned the number and insisted on speaking to the owner or a director of the company. Eventually someone claiming to be a director took my call.I hope the 2 guys got the sack later.

Re: Where do put the tent when touring?

I am not an experienced tourer but this seems to work for me. Thats the tent in its bag on the rack behind the seatpost. In wet the mat and tent go in plastic bags.

Re: Coming the old soldier?
If people are allowed to get away with ignoring requests to stop from police then complete anarchy would result.
It sounds to me that if he had stopped and discussed it with the Police support officers or whatever they are called, he would have just been given a warning. It was his fault for ignoring their request for him to stop that got him into trouble .

Re:Cat and Fiddle Road
Rode up it on the Trek Hybrid while we were there. Then back down via the A54. Didnt find the Cat and Fiddle road any more intimidating than any other A road to be honest. Quite a few HGV s winding there way up but noone did any crazy close shave overtakes or anything else to annoy /scare me.If up that way again will ride the circuit anticlockwise, the Descent from Cat and fiddle to Macclesfield must be fun
If camping up there I can recommend the Wildboar Inn campsite on the A54 (behind the pub) very scenic and quiet at night .

Re: Most dangerous roads
I am taking my son to Jodrell Bank at the end of the month and planned on riding the cat anfd fiddle road while we are there.
Not so sure I want to now.Whats the feeling from cyclists who have ridden it? Will be a weekday so probably fewer loonie motorcyclists.

If you were riding along a road and a sportive of a thousand riders came by the other way would you offer a cheery wave and say hello to all of them?
My attitude is enjoy your cycling whichever flavour you prefer and live and let live.

Re: Flat barred Audax bike.
I have a flat barred Trek Valencia which could be good. It comes with bontrager racelight 32c tyres good range of gears for hills and clearance for mudguards if needed. Having done 3000 miles on it this year I can say its definitely comfy for long days and surprisingly quick.

Re: Can I cycle on a bypass ??
Biggest problem on fast dual carriageways is crossing slip roads joining from the side. Cars will be flying down it looking over their shoulder for a gap to get into. Be wary.

Great. Im glad it worked out well for you.I think theres a lot of personal preference involved, some people are good on a smaller frame with lots of seatpost up and others arent.I dont think bike shops listen to the customer as much as they should , they just go purely on the measurements which is only part of the story. Your style of riding needs to be taken into account as well.

Re: Frame Sizes equivalent to Height
If youhavent bought the bike yetI would be wary of getting a smaller frame. The extra seatpost height to compensate will have you reaching further down to the bars which will be less comfortable.
Im on a 56cm road bike but only 5 ft 9 tall.
This link has some interesting info on the subject.http://www.rivbike.com/article/bike_fit/choosing_a_frame_size

A403 Avonmouth to Aust
Planning to use this bit of the A403 on a ride from Avonmouth to Barry Via the old Severn Bridge. Can anyone tell me if the A403 is a suitable road for cycling?
We dont really want to extend the route much so providing its not too terrible it looks to be the shortest flattest way from A to B.
