HAXBY CYCLES of york
although i have only used haxby cycles for 18 months, i can highly recommend the happy, quality service that this shop gives.
Nigel and all his staff are always happy to help and chat whatever the problem.
A great shop ran by friendly cyclists who like anything........ bikes
well worth a visit

heart rate monitors
Hi all
I have been mountain biking fo over 20 years now and like to measure my progress by miles done per ride or per week !!
I normaly do the red route (23 miles) in dalby twice a week and find that a good all round workout, with a couple of 30-40 miles road rides inbetween.
But i have been looking at heart rate monitors to gauge my level of fitness.
So i was wondering does anyone else out there use one and to what BPM do you measure your fitness to ???
I know age must make some difference in what BPM to aim for... im 45
It must differ from etc...
short blast off road
long off road ride
long road ride
anyone give me some pointers
cheers

Re: Cycle Theft in Bristol
what a fantastic idea
we should have a pc from each area on this forum.. im sure posting details will help a lot.. as when im out and about i tend to look at many cycles (im sure this is a thing that keen cyclists do ) as i go around.
but sadly you are a little out of my area.
any chance you could start the ball rolling to get more pc's reporting on here ?
regards
chris

Re: Use the cycle path
HI all
I live in York and dont often use the cycle path as they tend to run out very soon and leave you with nowhere to go apart from back onto the road where there is traffic already passing you !!! this makes me feel like i should stop and give way !! instead of just rejoining the stream of cars who have not left room for a cyclist !!
also when on a cycle path the other day i saw that the walkway was on the inside and the cycle lane was on the outside next to the road.. now this looked ok at the time until at 18 mile an hour i almost hit a chap getting off a bus !!! now this chap had to cross the cycle track in order to get to the walkway and didnt look for bikes!!! this is also the case for people crossing the road they also have to cross the cycle track to get to the walkway and dont seem to check for bikes !!!
i think taking bikes off the road and onto a path just makes another danger

Re: Death of the simple 'Mountain Bike' ?
I ride two GT's (not both at the same time !! )one is a GT Pantera A.L. ridgid as light as light can be and so responsive even at 13 years old !!
and the second is my 17 year old Zaskar L.E. hard tail with rockshox judy DH forks upfront a little heavier than the Pantera but great for the twice a week 23 mile route around dalby forest. I pass many full sus riders on route and also find that not many of them are doing the full route but have joined half way round !! plus most tend to be in there 20's and i'm 45 !!!
need i say more.....
but whatever your riding if you enjoy it what the hell

Re: No Mudguards???
I have ridden mountain bikes now for over 20 years ( back in the days when the only mountain bike mags you could buy where american imports ) winter and summer day and night and never used any form of guards ... the least you put on the bike the less you have to clean... love the mud !! and the clothes just go in the machine..

Re: Autumn has arrived!
Enjoy the highlands
a wonderful place, I spent a week in Altnahara..Sutherland a year ago. It was so remote as i remember in one 15 mile road trip we saw three cars... BLISS
We stayed at the B&B and were so well looked after, I can recommend it to any one.
