I run my Winter Marathons as soon as the first icy / winter weather arrives. My commute crosses a couple of valleys & the conditions can be different either side. I hope I'll be able take the winter tyres off soon though !
*I do have more than one bike, so I've got the option to commute without winter tyres if the weather is mild.

Schmidt wired headlamp adaptable to...
Schmidt wired headlamp. Any reason why it wouldn't work on a Shimano dyno hub if I removed the spade connectors & tidily threaded the bare wires into the Shimano "plug"??

Re: Surly Cross Check
I've been running my CC for 3 yrs or so as a fixie for audax / winter commuter. It stable, comfy & relatively*light ( *compared to my other bikes ) but above all it offers versatilty - fat tyres / gears / pannier options....It also looks rather plain & ordinary so I never worry about leaving it locked up outside a cafe /shop.

Love mine too ! Very comfy/nice angle on the brake hoods... the drops could be a tad longer though.

Northern & Scottish Cycle jumble - worth a visit?
Has anybody been to this cycle jumble before @ Longridge near Preston? It's on this sat 17th Nov. Just wondered if it was one of the bigger UK jumbles ?

Re: Panaracer Paselas.
I've been on Folding Ribmos 26x1.75 ( replacing worn Pasela 26 x1.5 ) for the last week covering 100 or so pretty wet miles. So far I'm quite impressed, they roll quite fast & handle fine. Possibly slightly less comfortable than a Pasela due to the Ribmos' thicker tread in the centre.

Re: Panaracer Paselas.
DaveP wrote:Having read an endorsement by Robin Thorn I bought a folding P P in 26 x 1.75 last year, as a spare for our tandem excursion in Southern France. Because we had it we didn't need it, and its still sitting on the shelf. That's a fairly expensive tyre and I've been thinking that it wont keep for ever and I ought to stick it on a wheel and try it out. (Probably not on the tandem, about to be winterised!). I dont have much experience of different tyre types, and I've never used a folding tyre before. Could be instructive, but having read this thread I dont know if that's such a good idea.
I presume the same considerations would aply to 26" tyres?
I've been running a 26 x 1.5 (steel bead ) Pasela on my commuter for a good 3000+ miles - can't recall a puncture... rear has begun to show signs of tread wear & also slight cracking between tread & sidewalls, I would expect them to be ok for another 1000 miles perhaps(?) But just fitted some 1.75" Ribmos ( folding ) out of curiosity / preparation for winter commutes...
*also ridden 700x32c Paselas on the fixie for a couple of years without any problems.

Re: Surly frames question
You might also want to consider chainstay length for pannier / heel clearance when deciding which model too !

I was about to buy some train tickets on Raileasy site but there doesn't seem to be anyway of reserving my bike ! - Any suggestions or any other train ticket website I should try?
