"But your a chap? Is it for your better half?"

One each. I expect that only one of us will require the funnel attachment!

"Looking one up for a picture to put on here I came across this which may help the fairer gender. https://www.mobilitysmart.co.uk/unisex- ... gKzlfD_BwE" Thanks for the tip off. I have just ordered two for the car as I would not feel safe using motorway service stations or any public toile...

Re: Options for improving a dutch bike's hill climbing

I had one of the early versions, at which time there was a limited selection of bottom bracket axles available. My Dutch bike had a press fit bottom bracket axle. Nearly all of the time consuming fiddle was getting an axle to fit the frame. I removed the push fit bottom bracket, filed it to take a t...

Re: Options for improving a dutch bike's hill climbing

I lowered the gearing on my Dutch bike by fitting an Efneo 3 speed front chainwheel. It has Sturmey Archer hub brakes and a three speed hub gear. Bit of a faff, and I haven't put the chain case back on yet but will get there in the end!

Re: Sturmey Archer 4 conversion

Hi Brucey,
Is the “L” shaped pull/push rod made from a standard SA toggle chain? I have an FG hub I want to upgrade to 5 speed and the only axle I have is a pre 1988 version with the weak springs.
Thank you
Steve

Re: SA AT5 internals into FG/AG hub?

No! They went straight in. The only original bit from the FG hub that was retained was the shell (and the dynamo). Turned out much easier to do than I feared!

Re: SA AT5 internals into FG/AG hub?

Things I found out this week! A 1986 set of AT5 internals does fit into a 1950 Dyno Four hub. I kept the quadrant changer for the right hand toggle chain and added a handlebar trigger for the left hand toggle chain. Gives gears of 32.6, 38.6, 49.0, 62.0, 73.4 A 23 tooth cog just fits into the 1939 R...

Re: SA AT5 internals into FG/AG hub?

Thanks Brucey. It's the "This would have to be checked" bit that I was hoping to get answered, hence wondering if anyone else has gone there first. The lower gears come from using larger sprockets. Installing a wider range hub and keeping top gear roughly the same will give the lower botto...

SA AT5 internals into FG/AG hub?

Has anyone done this modification or knows if it is possible? The reason I am interested is I have a couple of old rod brake roadsters which would be much more fun to use in Devon with lower gears. The rims have 40 holes which makes simply switching in an AT hub much less convenient.

Re: Shaved legs ... Who shaves yours ????

They don't need doing!
A quick internet trawl revealed 'Benign anterolateral leg alopecia' which apparently occurs in up to 35% of males and was first described in the 1920s. Nice to have an official name for it, and very reassuring to know one is not alone!
