Re: Can the UK survive John Cleese leaving ?

If I knew Paul O Grady, the thinking womans Cilla Black was threatening to inflict herself on the lucky Italians I would have voted Tory.Having said that the Tories came fourth where we live, and still beat Liberals. My altered vote would have had little effect on the overall figures.

Re: pedestrianising Oxford St rejected bt Westminster Council

[quote][/quote It seems strange to draw an opposition between "businesses in pedestrianised zones" and "the independent retail sector," when often it's independent shops that are found on pedestrianised streets. Perhaps an assumption is being made that pedestrianised zone = mall?...

Re: pedestrianising Oxford St rejected bt Westminster Council

There is evidence that businesses in pedestrianised zones do better than those on busy thoroughfares, and thereby draw customm away from the independent retail sector Furthermore pedestrianisation has led to in increase in trade for shops in large cities all over the world, thereby inflicting damage ...

Re: World cup - looking forward?

England had Croatia at their mercy but they missed numerous scoring chances-it should have been 3-0 at half-time.It was a poor game. The Croatian goal should be invalid as the player raised their foot almost maiming the English defender. It was gripping but if you watch Brazil 1970 or Argentina 1978 o...

Re: Businesses Backing Bikes

Chris Boardman has not contributed to cycling in a financial way,and is a net beneficiary, having traded on his gold medal in the TT at a distant Olympics. He was poor in the TDF.Mike Ashley is anet contributor, and is Mr Newcastle to Boardmans Mr Halford or Senor Carrera.Boardman has put his name to s...

Re: Triathlete hits horse on road. Shameful!

Horses are used to voices, other noise and objects spook them. When I'm out and see them I ping my bell in advance from distance then start chatting with rider as I near, horse is used to voices and will usually be more at ease. Not had an unpleasantries if courtesy is given. I feel there is a prob...

Re: Triathlete hits horse on road. Shameful!

I am quite surprised the horse rider chose to ride on a section of road where a race was being staged.I find many horse riders arrogant, and few acknowledge any attempt to steer clear of their steeds.I am surprised that the horse rider left a gap to their left,as this can encourage hazardous conduct....

Re: Road Tax for Electric Bikes ?

I can see no logical reason for not taxing pedestrians,as it is clear many pass wind, which is partially due to all those beans on toast, but methane is a “greenhouse gas”.They keep rhemselves warm, cool, fed and water sand in doing so contribute to the greenhouse effect as they consume electricity...

Re: Road Tax for Electric Bikes ?

I propose a 500.... .....no let's make 5000% tax levy on beans on toast for anyone arriving at a cafe on a ordinary bike, that should cost more than a penny farting. Are you capable of doing the maths on that one? Remember that you heard it here first-it will be Hammond's chance to get his own back ...

Re: What can we do to encourage more women to cycle?

I would redesign shopping trolleys(supermarket) such they can either be towed or shunted by cyclists.I would further insist on all future buildsn be located uphill in residential areas to ease the return home.In the short-run the Chancellor should exempt shopping baskets, which attach to bikes, from V...
