Re: pedestrianising Oxford St rejected bt Westminster Council

I feel the WC are right to allow traffic through Oxford Street. It is a large shopping magnate which draws in loads of shoppers, mann of whom are aleady overburdened by debts,Mr Khans proposals will help the shops there most of which represent the worst excesses of capitalism,If opassed the displaced ...

Road Tax for Electric Bikes ?

I can see no logical reason for not taxing electric bikes,as it is clear many ride them without pedalling. They contribute to the greenhouse effect as they consume electricity generated by burning gas, coal and other combustibles.I would also advocate insurance for all bicycles used on then road, and a...

Can I suggest The 39 Stops which is a thriller in which the hero,Richard Hannay is on the run from the police and a secret organisation trying to smuggle out state secrets.?I also would urge you to look at this link https://www.cyclinguk.org/news/20170406-cycling-uk-member-retraces-poet%E2%80%99s-ri...

Re: E-bikes,scooters and motorbkies

You find it puzzling??? Doesn't sound like you have given it much thought... "It seems pretty obvious that the disadvantages of motorcycles/scooter, to name but a few, would include: Cannot ride on cyclepaths Need to wear a helmet Are noisy Stink Need a special licence Need to use the same rou...

Re: E-bikes,scooters and motorbkies

The's a lot of stuff not needed but useful, dishwashers,TV's,mobile phones, etc. Better a not needed e-bike than a not needed over sized 4x4 and SUV or a car of any kind FTM to get you the five miles or so to work and back,no? I've always welcomed e-bikes as another help toward cleaner air, less cars ...

Re: E-bikes,scooters and motorbkies

No....you went much further than expressing surprise. Your comments were one long sneer at the whole idea and which was then extended to include other groups of disabled people. If you had any sensitivity you would be ashamed. I do find the idea puzzling. Why buy an electric bike when a motorbike or...

Re: E-bikes,scooters and motorbkies

I think you may find the first cyclists were drawn from the upper echelons-the proletariat would have laughed as toffs tried to rough it.T^his guardian extract misses the real point https://www.theguardian.com/environment/bike-blog/2015/jun/09/feminism-escape-widneing-gene-pools-secret-history-of-19...

Re: E-bikes,scooters and motorbkies

As for your unnecessary and equally barbed comments on mobility scooters and their use,yes I dare say there are some unthinking uncaring people using them, personally I've yet to come across any.But their use is a need(the clue is in the the name)to help people continue an independent and as active ...

Re: E-bikes,scooters and motorbkies

He said remove the blinkers and widen your views. If blinkers don't narrow your views then how do they concentrate them on what can be seen? Fair comment tbh. If you took a wider view of it, perhaps look at things from the viewpoint of people with different needs and wants to you then you might wid...

Re: E-bikes,scooters and motorbkies

After cycle-touring for over fifty years, I suffered two heart attacks, a stroke, and having knackered knees, normal cycling became very difficult if not impossible. In an effort to rejoin my cycling friends on at least moderate, runs I converted one of my bikes to e-assist which meant I still had ...

Re: World cup - looking forward?

I agree-I have no real interest. This will probably mean that the tam will shoch us all by winning two matches. They have the element of surprise in as much as they can only outperform expectations. In 1970 they could have picked a reserve team better than the current players-how many current players w...

The purpose of blinkers are to focus and concentrate not to obscure and confuse. It is quite clear that you really do not understand their purpose.

Re: Nutrition on a long ride

In Sheffield some of the old timers take a small snap tin,and one uses those fat balls designed for garden birds. He wraps it in grease-proof and fills his water-bottle with cold tea-no milk. The younger riders not to be outdone melt cheese in pan, stir in museli, and allow to set o'ernight in sardine t...
