Chain guard

Hi All Does anyone know where I can buy a full enclosing chain guard? Indeed, does anyone make one? I am commuting about 80 miles a week on a Claude Butler Urban 100. It has full mudguards and a big homemade mud flap on the front which does help, but with so much c*** on the road during the winter, ...

Wrong tyres?

Last week, I was given a bike which has languished in a shed for heaven knows how long. It's an old Raleigh 5 speeder which has sporting pretences (dropped handlebars to you and me). It has very little wear on it and is still on it's original tyres, (26 X 1 1/4 Raleigh Racing). These are well perish...

Re: mirrors.

I bought a pair of bar ends from Halfords. With care, it is possible to work these "round the corner". You can then fit your exsisting mirror to the bar end. If the bar ends are too long, you can take a hacksaw to them and reduce their length.

Re: Lost my bottle

I've wimped out since the white stuff. Luckily, I do have a car to fall back on.
I have a few hills to tackle on my daily commute and these are lethal when it's slippery.

Re: Pumping up tyres - how often?

I check mine once a week when I wash the bike and do all my other checks (brakes, steering wheel bearings lights etc). I commute 5 days per week and clock up about 80 miles per week.

Re: Reducing Accidents

I have a very good friend who came off his bike after hitting a wet drain cover, he then hit his head on a kerb stone. He wasn't wearing a helmet and unfortunately ended up with brain damage. It's just not worth the risk of riding a bike without head gear IMO.

Re: So....how many of you have showers at work?

We don't have shower facilities at work, but our place is next door to an Hotel with a health club. I joined the club just to be able to use the showers in the morning. Quite an expensive solution, but still cheaper than the cost of running a car.

Bikes in movies

Here's a question for you. Name a movie which features a bike. I can think of 3 off the top of my head. ET, with ET riding in the basket in the front. The Great Escape. James Cockburn stealing a bike and riding through France. The little boy on a trike riding down the corridor in The Shining. Any mo...

Re: Stolen bikes on ebay

Hi Hugh Can't take credit for the swapping parts comment, someone else came up with that. I have not (yet) bought any secondhand bikes or secondhand bike parts off ebay, but have bought other goods with mixed fortunes  Now older and wiser and I will only buy (secondhand) stuff after physical i...

Re: Stolen bikes on ebay

Dear Hugh W I would not automatically think that someone with 300+ feedback was a crook, the opposite in fact :!: My original suspicions came form the sellers response (or lack of it) to a reasonable request to view the bike. That bike has now been sold. It just might have been a genuine sale in whi...

Re: Stolen bikes on ebay

Not all sellers with zero feedback are crooks, after all you do have to start somewhere. I am also sure that there are a few unscrupulous types who will build up good feedback by buying small value items with the sole purpose of then selling something dodgy. The problem with a lot of secondhand good...

Stolen bikes on ebay

Hi everybody New to the forum, but not new to cycling, been commuting to work for last 30 years :D I have been looking on fleabay recently for a road bike to get out on at weekends and I was wondering just how many stolen bikes end up for sale on there. I have seen a nice Cartlon Grand Prix listed b...
