Re: Rack ... How much !!

If i had a top spec carbon bike , not .... and i wanted to commute i would put that money into something that eyelets even if it was second hand .My current nicer weather commuter is an alloy boardman , it has eyelets for lower rack mounts and using a seatpost collar with mount point it makes a nice...

Re: Sliding off back of saddle.

........... Was that for the OP or me ? Assuming me the lemond method gives me 65.5 cm to BB based on a 175 mm crank , the bikes have 170 mm crank so that gives me 69 cm . which as it happens matches my heel on pedal .Thats using KOPS to give me 4 cm of setback from saddle tip ( 29 cm saddle ) from...

Re: Sliding off back of saddle.

Out of interest what is your top of saddle to pedal distance measured along seat post? I find mine is between 65 and 67cm. Is that comparable to you? I can ride a 54cm diamond framed bike but one with a sloping top tube of that size is too big for me. With sloping top tubes that are the fashion now...

Re: Sliding off back of saddle.

I am 5 foot 7 " with a 77.5 inside leg and ride 2 small boardmans, both with the same saddle height and reach , top tube is only 5 mm shorter than the bike you quoted and again quoted for 5foot 8 " +

Re: Crashing and getting older

My 'off' at age 72, an encounter with a hole in tbe road here in South Potholeshire resulted in a badly injured shoulder, many stitches and a very painful operation a year later. 3 years of pain which will never be completely pain free. Fortunately the £550 damage to my Mercian was covered by my ho...

Re: Weather Forecast

Was told by a work mate who uses his car for pretty much the same roads it was -5 at one point around 6.15 am yesterday , the joys of commuting along country lanes with wide fields adds a lot of windchill if he winds right . TBH on night shift next week and if it rains/snows the run off from aforesa...

Re: The hassle of cycling versus the hassle of driving

Given the forecast weather next week and i am on night shift riding unlit country lanes it will be the car. Just getting over a damaged shoulder from off last year thats taken 6 months + of physio to get to a state where i can consider riding anything more than a commute and i dont want to fark it u...

Re: Decathlon tights

I used to rave about decathlon shorts but the quality of the current bib shorts leaves much to be desired. The fabric was very thin and bobbled and turned into holes on the inner thigh even though i could see no where that it was catching on the bike/ saddle etc, the pad seemed overly wide at the fr...

Re: Group Rides - being left behind

Depends whether one wants to potter along or suffer and get stronger and faster Try explaining that to a non-cyclist # Indeed, when i commute i take the return trip either hammer down or just spinning home, although even the wife doesnt understand why i choose to cycle on night shift when i have ac...

Re: Group Rides - being left behind

You would not join a tennis club and expect to play among their most skilled players. I started riding in the late 60s (CTC) and whilst you were looked after you were expected to improve which is done by stretching yourself. In the late 70s I moved house and rode with a different DA. One year they ...

Re: Riding in the dark

Natural caution I guess but also as there is so much wildlife around. Exactly the same here, my average speed is typically 1-1.5mph lower than in daylight( 14-15mph in the dark ). Also, possibly due to reduced feedback and more attuned to wind noise, I feel that a slower speed feels much faster. Bu...
