Re: Tyre pressure?
I don't think anyone's mentioned the relationship between risk of sidewall chafing and lower pressures. Just something else to bear in mind.

Re: LED rear light for carrier mount 80 mm
I've just received one of these Smart lights in the post:
https://www.highonbikes.com/products/sm ... gJp8fD_BwE
Not fitted or tested it yet though.
Update: Now fitted, easily done. 80mm spacing only. It only has a single LED, in the middle at the bottom, which is fairly bright & diffused mainly along the base of the reflector, with steady & flash modes. Claims 100h/200h battery life for the two AAAs. Also claims to be "water resistant" - there is no rubber waterproof seal between the base & reflector unit, just an extra lip within the plastic along the upper edge, so instead it seems designed to allow water out easily via a drain at the bottom, which should prevent condensation I suppose.
Given the price I'll be happy if I only get two or three winters' use, which is all I've got from some other more expensive models anyway.

Re: Lighting; quite a reassuring ride!
It might also be a bit different once everyone goes back to work, and drivers resume their usual behaviour. Over the last 10 days I've certainly found traffic lighter and drivers more relaxed and considerate than they are for the rest of the year.

Re: Shimano dynamo hubs
Had to replace mine a month ago, as it just simply stopped providing any power. 7 years old, and probably done about 12000 miles. I suspect a loose wire internally, but to be honest have no real idea what happened.
Is a replacement internal assembly readily available? And easily fitted?

Re: 1 poor gear shift in an 8 speed cassette?
If the mech is 20 years old, could the return spring be a bit weak, and do the pivots move freely without being sloppy? I'd say your symptoms are classic first signs that the mech might be getting worn out!

Re: Why am I eating through chains so fast?
If you have a double or triple chainset, wear might be accelerated by "cross-chaining". It seems quite common these days to ride with the chain on big ring and biggest sprocket, rather than finding a better chain line.

The sign in question.

If on the inside face it is unlikely to be for a dynamo or rack.

Re: Rear USB light
Tangentially, what is the great attraction of USB lights? I prefer a bolt-on light with (rechargeable) AA batteries.

Re: LONG TERM PARKING HOLYHEAD
The usual advice is
1) find a quiet residential street with plenty of room where you won't inconvenience the residents (my preference, once did that for 2 weeks in Holyhead)
Or
2) look at options on Just Park website

Re: Bodensee (Lake Constance) on a Brompton?
Could get some chilly nights and mornings at that time of year, I seem to remember a few at -5C in October when we were there, though it was probably late October rather than early. Weather is usually pretty good, but can get foggy as the lake area is a big basin into which all the cold air settles.

Along with all this disposable tat, is that it gets harder to find cafes which offer a proper pot of tea! Does my head in.
