Re: What tent to use?

i'll buy a campervan f i do win the lottery throw the bike on the back. I'm taking a break this year from A-to-B cycle camping and taking my Camplet trailer tent to a central position to gain some of the Cycle Quest destinations, so hopefully I will relish the comfort even if I miss the total...

Re: What tent to use?

I use an Easton Kilo, two-man tent for the lightweight tours, but you wouldn't want two people in it and although it will cope with extreme weather, it's not what you would call robust. It will happily cope with an extended tour staying at Campsites, but I wouldn't be comfortable using it for an ext...

Re: Female choices of Roadbikes

I didn't mean this in a heavy way. I certainly didn't take it that way! ...just very happy if someone pointed out the exact women-specific frame that achieves a shorter top tube (i.e. shorter than that which is achievable on a men's bike).... I think it's also worth noting that a "short" ...

Re: Female choices of Roadbikes

In my research into finding a bike with shorter reach for myself (long legs, short body), I concluded that 700c wheels with a diamond frame make it impossible to shorten the top tube further than a certain point. You can lengthen the top tube, you can steepen the seat angle or you can switch to 26&...

Re: Female choices of Roadbikes

The main difference between normal bikes (for men) and female specific bikes is the comparative length of the top tube. Not in all cases, but in general, females have a longer legs to torso ratio and therefore if you (for example) buy a bike with a 54 cm seat tube length the top tube may be too long...

Re: Hebridian Way - GPX files?

What I did was to cycle from Ullapool to Inverness, I stayed at the campsite in Beauly, but you could also stay at the campsite by the Leisure Centre in Inverness. Then cycled down to Fort William and got the train from there only 2 extra days of cycling or one and half if you set off early enough! ...

Re: trousers for Iceland

I have bought a pair of British Army snuggies, with a wicking baselayer and a tight weave cotton overtrousesers I think I have the right combinations. It allows for plenty of room and no chafing. I cycled out last night and it was -4 which is a whole order warmer than what I will have to put up wit...

Re: camping and YHA going going gone?

Not sure whether scrabble allows place names, if so I might win, I fished the names out of my memory. Well, I'm impressed - I can't even remember the hostels I stayed at let alone the complicated names   First went hostelling 1973, cost about 37p to stay. 1977 for me, but walking in t...

Re: Three peaks prep?

You said you had traded out your boots for trail shoes - which shoes were you using (style, model, whatever you can tell me)? Did you come across any difficulty in using them? I was going to take my 2-3 season boots but, if it's feasible, Ultra Raptors would save and lot of weight and packing space...

Re: Outer Hebrides Cycle Tour 2016

Some great photos there, a good showcase for the Hebrides. I would have loved to have spent more time there on my trip and explored some of the roads far less travelled, with a bit of hiking exploration as well, but I was unfortunate with the weather, indeed on N Uist my Hilleberg Soulo survived whe...

Sorry to the OP - I didn't mean to hijack your thread with my achievements, but as Natural Ankling asked, if you provide us with a bit more information, I'm sure there are a few forumites, myself included, who can give you some credible advice!

Re: Three peaks prep?

Hi, What sort of gear did you carry :?: How did you secure your gear from theft on the mountains. I suppose that you could take your bike up the mountains, it would be hard pushing but not impossible :) I'm from a mountaineering background anyway and have been up the three peaks numerous times over...

They certainly do...I did it a few years ago from Hants/Wilts, cycle-camping, unsupported!
