Re: Carrera bikes?

lol i am a bike snob but i only own halfords bikes

I bought a carrera Gryphon 6 years ago and I still use it frequently for commuting rides. I cant fault it. I've serviced it once in that time and apart from wear and tear on brakes tubes and tyres, nothing else has gone wrong.

Agreed i would never give halfords my bnike to service or 'fix' (nightmares of sending one of my purchases back 6 times just to sort indexing out), but, i have two hybrid's, a mountain bike (a carrera banshee??) and a road bike all from halfords without much problems from a sale point of view.

besides its covered my guarantee for 12 months minimum 8)

Nutella is packed with protein. There's quite a bit in the rice cakes, and then post-ride is practically all protein.

Why does it matter? Surely it's better to get energy from carbs/calories than protein...?

It matters to a diabetic that follows a lower carb diet to keep the blood glucose levels down to a safer level 8), not that rice cakes and nuttella is particularly lo-carb :) It does mean i get to eat egg and bacon for breakfast and meat for ongoing energy (and if anyone on my sunday ctc ride grasses me up for eating cake i'll deny it all day long  )

Makes a change...

.....for the cyclist to get it all wrong!

There I am at the end of my ride home from work (about 16 miles in). I get in to a small stage of tussle with a car or two over space, the road then bears left. The opposite direction is clear and the traffic my way stops. I decide to pull out and round - quite safely. Get to the end 't' junction, 1 car turning right, 1 car turning left so i go in the middle but I'm going too fast and almost end up in the next road and a car is coming from my right

So i swing left sharply (across the path of the car turning left :( ) and the approching car comments on my outstanding manouvre with a "u ffing idiot" and quite rightly so and i say nothing in response knowing i'm in the wrong, try to give an apologetic wave but the lose control of the steed. #

Now you many of you know that feeling of "it is definately going to crash but i'll try and save it any way" moment, but i managed to keep that up for about the longest 5 seconds in the world before ending up in a heap  All this with an audience of about 20 cars 8)

No broken bones but the handlebars had twisted round, which i had to sort out before i could carry on ( with said audience :D )

God damn my knee is sore but hey ho, my fault, what a wally - 1 up for the motorist

London to Brighton

Forgive me if someone has posted elsewhere and if this is in the wrong section, but i was wondering if many others here did the London to Brighton yesterday? I did a quick search but not a lot came up. I finished in 4 hours 45 minutes, shaving 2 and a quarter hours off my last attempt 5 years ago (this time i was focused on the ride more than the social).

Also this time i cycled all the way up the beacon, i took 2 'breather' stops but so glad i did it, well done to everyone that participated - me after the ride:

Re: Inspire me

If i'm off for a 20 miler i use this link: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com to plot a route. It doesnt give much inspiration on 'waypoints' but does allow you to get the distance right.

What about going out with your local ctc group?
