Re: KOPS and bar height

KOPS is a coincidental product of RACING bicycle fitting.

It does not apply to recumbents, unicycles, treadle bicycles, time trial bikes, town bikes or touring bikes.

Nor cycloX, BMX or MTBs where the backside is off the saddle for most of the duration of the race.

What you do is pull the front brake lever with the index finger; with the middle finger wrapped across the outside of the index finger.

What he doesn't mention is the hardness of the rubber, the vulcanising process differences to produce a hard or soft rubber, and the different 'compounds' of rubber and synthetic that are out there today. Inflate a tyre to 120 psi and put a Shore hardness tester on it. Although the tyre is inflated ...

Go to a fitting service.
It's money well spent.

Second thoughts. Go to your GP and get a prescription for a bike fit.

Re: How to keep warm.

I have Tudor longs over my shorts. I have a base layer from Go Outdoors under a long sleeve thermal vest from M&S under a long sleeve cold-weather Road Jersey made by GearClub. On hands I have a pair of Extremities Windy under track mittens. On feet I have a pair of M&S ‘Intrepid’ really thi...

Re: Do councils have a duty of care over cycle paths?

As soon as you send them an e-mail informing them of a dangerous bit of carriageway or footpath, there is a 'paper trail' and they cannot deny they didn't know about it.

Re: mystery object...

Looks like 1/2" BSP. British Std Pipe. 27 mm A/F.

Its brass.

There should be a spring, a ball and a valve seat in it to make a 'pop-off' relief valve.

Re: Modern bikes is ugly, innit

It the fashion for black that gets up my nose. Even cycle clothing is fashionable black. Components are black, and frames are often black, or coloured to compensate for the black. I prefer shiny bling components and brightly coloured frames. Why is CF black? Why isn't Ti painted? The conspiracy the...

Re: Standover height how important

Crank throw, hip joint distance and lumbar vertebrae angle are the critical dimensions. Crank throw is determined by leg length. Hip joint distance is set so the angles of the upper leg do not crunch or stretch too much. For performance cyclistrs, it is done by HR efficiency on an ergometer. For lei...
