Re: Carbon Fibre wheel rims

Most of the wheels i've seen seem to range between 500 and 700 quid so perhaps riders only use them on the track. Would brake blocks be a special material ? I've got Zipp 303 wheels on my best bike, full carbon including the brake track. The brake blocks are the same stuff they use in F1 cars , not...

Re: Hardest UK climb?

To categorise a hill in the big French race, a baseline unit was established. This was the energy taken to propel the car 10 km along the flat at 20kmh. A hill is categorised on the car’s energy requirement to get from the base to summit. All done at 20 kmh, resulting multiple of the car’s fuel use ...

Re: When its OK to drop a cycling buddy

If there is a rider in physical difficulty, never, never, NEVER leave them.

Your friendship will be rewarded many times more than a stupid little medal.

Re: Ten Miles a Day

My 26 mile commute raises my daily average by 0.008 miles/day.

If I miss days commuting, I will have to do some evening or weekend mileage.

Re: Sat nav on android.

Those of us who have been cycle couriers to earn extra cash, buy proper SatNavs like TomTom Urban Rider. Originally aimed at motorcyclists, it really is the dog’s doobries for getting to a postcode or street address anywhere.

Which city?

Study the map. Post one on the wall of your office at work.
Memorise the routes one-by-one from studying the map.

In addition, memorise the back-street alternatives and how you can get round bad junctions.

After a couple of weeks, you won’t need your phone.

Tomorrow’s Daily Bellylaugh photo will be of a car parked across a cycle lane. They will have gone to BirminghamCyclists.com for the photo.

The first cyclist on a railway line for about thirty years.
When was the most recent car in a cycle lane?

Re: Fell off on a sort of tramline - advice please?

IIRC, a change in road or path surface, such as an out-of-place paving slab or edge of a road workings, has to be greater than 1” for the local authority to place signage or repair it.

Road and path surface fluctuations of less than 1” is up to the individual to exercise ‘self care’.

Back up to 24.2.
‘Clee to heaven’ 120 km Audax on Saturday. Gentle ride on Sunday. Commute Monday and yesterday. Club 10 TT last night. Commute this morning.
My legs are shot. Equivalent FTP of only 230 last night, but daily average up to 24.2

"I use a gauge at times but often just used a rule of thumb" I use rule of thumb and forefinger,,, What was needed was an experienced cyclist or seasoned bike shop mechanic to effect a demonstration on your bike. Sadly, both of these types of people are now few and far between. Sorr...
