Re: I want to build a recumbent...

Thank you GrahamNR17, that you very blinkin' much!!!
As if I didn't already have enough 'projects' to occupy my litte head, you go a nd plant the seed in my brain thatI want to build a 'bent too!!! :x :D
And thank you to those who've mentioned the Atomiczombie webpage, as the plans on there for the Warrior Tadpole Trike look rather appealing.
I'm now off, dracula-like, to find innocent bicycles to become donors for my 'creation'! 8)

Re: Shimano A530 Pedals – Reflectors Question

Finally got the pics done, so here goes.

This is the platform side of the pedal, showing the metal plate which sits on that side.

This shows the reflector body from underneath (sorry about the flash bounce!).

FInally, this shows how they reflectors fits around the moving part of the clip.

Re: Shimano A530 Pedals – Reflectors Question

Yessir, they have. First, an apology, postage wasn't free, that was due to a misunderstanding with the German-to-English translation on the web, so it cost me a further 9.90 euros. The company I dealt with were extremely friendly and efficient and I'd recommend them.
I was slightly disappointed when the items arrived to find they were fixed with anodised screws through an anodised steel plate, I was kinda expecting/hoping for stainless. Also, the screws are self-tappers and fix into the plastic housing of the reflector, whereas I'd have preferred a threaded steel insert.
That said, because they are a Shimano product and designed to fir these pedals they look very good thus far, nestling nicely onto the pedal and looking very much like they won't get in the way at all when using cleated shoes.
I haven't actually used them yet as I was waiting for payday before purchasing a set of shoes, but as this happens Monday I will be able to report on how I get on, both with the pedals and with being clipless for the first time (ulp!)
I can try and post some pics of the pedals with reflectors fitted if you wish?

Awright you, you, you correct person you, I left myself open for that one! :D
All I meant was, they are a passive safety measure and so should be encouraged. They, like the 'orrid clip-on wheel reflectors fitted as standard to bikes do show up well in sunlight , and lets face it, anything that makes you more visible to a motorist has to be a good thing, right?
I ws suprised when I'd fitted Sekuclips to mine and my families bikes' wheels how well they showed up when the sunlight caught them. It's just a personal thing and when it comes to being seen it's Tesco thinking i.e. every little helps :)

Re: Pedal reflectors and the CTC shop.

It's not, unfotunately the rules which mandate fitting of reflectors also madates they be to a British Standard, so the Scotchlite idea is out.
I do think it's poor that a regulation like this can be so easily circumvented by the sellers stating the pedals are for 'daylight use only'. I don't actually think this would absolve them of the responsibility for fitting reflectors if push came to shove. :?:

Re: Shimano A530 Pedals – Reflectors Question

Oh I don't know, most people do even though they've never met me!
I'm kinda hoping when they arrive they prove to be machined out of solid unobtanium, at least that would explain the cost!!

Re: unbelievable !!

I started a topic on this on Cyclechat, as they use the term 'ninja' to describe the modern all-black-clad suicidal loons who try at every opportunity to become a statistic whilst riding at night.
I suggested a sub-category of 'hi-viz ninja' because I see a lot of them herabouts. They seem to think that hi-viz is a superb substitute for lights :?

Re: Shimano A530 Pedals – Reflectors Question

Hello, I was looking for info o nthese pedals, having just bought a pair, and Google threw up this thread as one of it's answers so I registered so I could answer.
Soprry if this comes too late for the OP and those who've answered butI've just bought a set of reflectors for the A530s here. Postage was free but they still cost £23.05, so if you didn't want to bother you'd be sane, unlike me who has just paid £23.05 for a set of pedal reflectors!!!!! Never mind, you're only here once!
