I am about to cycle round the ww1 sites in the Somme at Thriepval, the Vimy ridge, Contalmaison and would appreciate some information about the book you mention. I will also be visiting a relative's grave at Bethune.

here is the link for the free ferry trip; http://www.sailandcycle.com/ Going South to Albert seemed best as there are a few museums ( http://www.somme-battlefields.com/en/index.aspx ) and the only surviving trench system within a short ride of each other. I also found this site useful for cycle idea...

Hello all I will be doing Lejog in September, but had discounted the GGW between Ft William and Inverness as it is supposedly MTB only.
