Lisbon, Evora routes & advice for end August?

I've booked a flight to Lisbon on 26th August and was going to cycle Alentejo with Evora as a base. However I'm told the temperatures are very high at that time of year. Has anyone cycled this area? What is the heat like?

Re: Accommodation near Portsmouth Continental ferry port

I would check tripadvisor which I find generally reliable. Interesting comments from many guests about the options you mention. The curry house I mentioned above is "A Pinch of Spice" 211 Albert Road.

Re: Accommodation near Portsmouth Continental ferry port

I stayed in the Etap at Fratton park in May which was cheap, quiet and 2 miles from terminal. https://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=8497527744944586937. Also a short walk from Albert Road a street lined with curry houses. Leopold Tavern in this street, real ale pub thats won awards and there is an ...

Re: Bordeaux to Sete

Did Toulouse to Sete 5 years ago and came off the canal at some points more towards Beziers because of the tree roots coming through the path which made for bumpy riding. Did Bordeaux ( well Marmande) Toulouse this year and I thought it a much better ride. tarmac all the way and no tree roots. We ga...

Re: portsmouth to london - 4 bikes on train?

thanks for that - very helpful. Probably will go to station early and then make sure we have plenty trains to choose from. Peak times are a mystery as they vary from station to station here in Scotland. Will check.

Re: bike on train - should there be a physical ticket?

For trips abroad http://www.raileurope.co.uk/ can book bikes onto trains, if you phone them. And you get an actual ticket for the bike. Just booked Bordeaux to Toulouse. French web sites do not let you book bikes.

Re: bike on train - should there be a physical ticket?

Contrary to my previous post I have booked my bike to Penzance from Aberdeen using Cross Country Trains. I have a bike reservation number but was also told that I should take the number to the ticket office and get a tag for the bike. There is a first time for everything I suppose. Anyone know if y...

Re: bike on train - should there be a physical ticket?

completed journey without hassle. Journey out on Crosscountry had a guards van that I had to myself. No-one asked whether I had a booking. Journey back with Virginrail never saw anyone and put my bike in the small bike hanging from roof area. When ticket collector came along to my seat I told him ab...

Re: bike on train - should there be a physical ticket?

Thanks. I have a booked ticket and seat for the train in each direction and the emailed bike reservation confirmation code - the same one code for both companies. When I phoned virgin they said I need a coupon. It all adds to the anxiety levels as I'm on the last train home. A co-ordinated policy ac...

bike on train - should there be a physical ticket?

My work has booked me to Birmingham on Crosscountry out and Virginrail back. I asked them to book my bike and I can cycle when there. On past journeys to London I got a ticket for my bike and had to attach it to the bike. This time I got an email reference number from my works booking agent. Should ...

Italy is out too then :)

Malaga with good waterproofs sounds like the best option.

Jan cycle - Malaga or Athens?

Looking to go somewhere warmer than Scotland in January. Not expecting to sit around in hot temperatures but cycle in mild weather. From Edinburgh I can find cheap flights to Athens and Malaga during January. Which one should I book?

Helen - pick up the bike map of Estonia at that shop. Its called "eeesti rattateed" and is very comprehensive with 50 routes all over Estonia- better than anything on the internet. They posted it to me. When are you going? I will be there on the 18th June - we are cycling the islands to th...
