Re: My 16 Day LeJog May / June 2017

My friend and I are doing LEJOG in mid April next year. We had a route planned but have modified certain aspects of it based on advice on the forum. One question I have is from Inverness northwards on the A9... your route takes you via Dingwall, Helmsdale to JOG. We were looking at Lairg, Tongue an...

Re: My 16 Day LeJog May / June 2017

I had no idea. All I knew was that I had no appetite. I got tired later in the day after Monmouth. The first time I felt ill was on Day 9 when I struggled badly on a very long flat stretch. After that it was generally hard work most of the time, which I put down to not eating very well, but I just ...

Re: My 16 Day LeJog May / June 2017

Hi, have read through this post with interest. I set off next week and intend to do majority of journey with bivvy and take in one or two hotels. Thank you for posting your route - I will use this, making a couple of slight adjustments. Glad you’re using the route and hope it works for you. Good lu...

See Days 7-10 of this post: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=121231
I followed A49 and A6 for much of this route without any problems. Took a few detours to use quiter roads that didn’t add too many miles.

Re: The Highlands

I went up the east coast in early June last year, accommodation was really difficult to find at short notice. Book as far ahead as you can, and if needed, use Tripadvisor which helped me identify a couple of places that were not listed on the likes of Booking.com

Re: LEJOG Route setting off 6th May.

Not sure of your intended route but without wishing to complicate things there’s a second Bettys on the outskirts of Harrogate, and others in the centre of York and Ilkley! Northallerton is the quietest of these, and gives the most direct route north. York takes you out to the east, whereas Ilkley t...

Re: LEJOG Route setting off 6th May.

Bettys - very posh, and very good (pricey) food. Not a biker's cafe! Presume you're getting washed and changed first? If you're planning to follow the A1 through Yorkshire, travel on the Great North Road through Aberford, then follow signs for Bramham, then Wetherby, then the A168 to Dishforth...

Re: LEJOG in June, Route Review Please

Mick F - I used virtually all of your route via Wye Valley, with a detour to avoid Bristol. Scroll through following link for digital format of route on a day by day basis - will hopefully save you recreating it from scratch!

Re: LEJOG in June, Route Review Please

I used the A6 most of the way from Preston to Penrith to avoid the Lakes last summer, and the traffic was light. I took a small diversion to avoid busy A590 - see aatached link, but ignore the loop at mile 30 - just go straight across at the junction with A65.

Re: LEJOG Route setting off 6th May.

I followed most of this route (including Mick F’s route through Cornwall) last year. If it helps there’s some GPX files and B&B recommendations if you follow this link and scroll down far enough.

Re: GPX routes - LEJOG

See my post: https://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=121231 I think this route might do it for you. I did use main roads, but only recall one short fast stretch. I never had any problems with the traffic and much of the route was scenic. The first part from LE to Wye Valley fits your cr...

Re: My 16 Day LeJog May / June 2017

She’s very keen on stately homes and the like. There were lots of these en route. A couple of hotels had swimming pools. And there were plenty of sightseeing opportunities. Having said that she was very glad to get home at the end!
