Re: carrying a phone in the summer

I sometimes wear it around my neck, in a see through pouch. Easily accessible and can be on the outside or tucked under shirt.

Re: Spare Tyre?

I needed mine on my last trip (in that awful wet weather). Fully loaded camping and a slow flat meant that the rear tyre deformed giving a wobble as if the wheel was buckled (it wasn't). Rode from Caen to the Med and did NOT find a suitable replacement anywhere as I was riding in very rural France a...

Re: Brittany ferries - crazy prices

I am using BF on Friday, Portsmouth to Caen. Booked last November. Price £50 each for two of us, one way only. I don't think this is too much - after all they have to run a business and make a profit (or at least not too much of a loss). Six hours cruising, enjoying the views leaving and reaching po...

Re: Passing clearance - motion at AGM

Head above the parapet and ready to duck. I've been riding in Majorca this week and everyone,YES, everyone has given me plenty of room. This on wide and narrow roads, despite the occasional selfish or unthinking action by large groups of road gangs. So I think its a mindset amongst motorists that wo...

Re: Butser Hill - proposed cyclepath for the missing link

Graham Thanks for the clarification - I don't know how a reader was supposed to know you were referring to non staff. I think my point about seeing the broader picture still stands though - they can still benefit from increased usage of the park by those arriving on cycles from the north. I went pas...

Re: Butser Hill - proposed cyclepath for the missing link

A good proportion of the people I work with over at QECP are already incensed that such a large amount of money has been spent "on a few cyclists". I have my work cut out trying to persuade them otherwise That's an interesting view as members of the local CTC had been campaigning for year...

Re: It's all in the name - Cyclists' TOURING club

Thanks for the Gaz but I am sure that I read it somewhere not that long ago but I do not have the skills you have for finding past posts etc. Perhaps I should have kept past CYCLE mags as I used to but now I bin them after a short while.

531Colin - You could instead donate it to Sustrans. They admit today to being in crisis and sent me a begging email for donations.
Could this be a sign of the times for more charities?

Re: It's all in the name - Cyclists' TOURING club

The vacancies on Council are advertised in Cycle and you have a month to get together the five member signatures to qualify to go on the election list. If the number of applicants is equal to or less than the number of vacancies, the applicants are appointed to Council Perhaps that used to be the c...

Re: CTC Begging Letter - March 2016

Anyway we'll be in paradise so who cares :D Your executor will I can assure you. I had the misfortune to act as executor for a relative who gave substantial sums to 3 charities and one NFP organisation (think that this was also a charity). This resulted in an enormous amount of work on my part and ...

Re: My New Bike

Very nice MickF. I suspect that after a few months you will have made a few modifications to get it "just so" specifically for you. You mention the twitchiness (not sure that's exactly how you described it) of the steering initially. I have an elderly Bike Friday on 20 inch wheels which ge...

Try the YHA one in the Cott Valley, named Lands End.
Used by many LEJOG riders and have a large garage for bike storage.

It doesn't look like a gentle trip to me having seen your projected daily mileage.
