Re: The CTC - is it vulnerable?

Why stay in the CTC? (to paraphrase). Well I ride usually twice weekly with my DA- I'm afraid we do not call ourselves an MG - we've been a DA for donkey's years. BUT we subscribe to the organisation's rules - viz. to ride with the group you have to be a member. That seems to me to be fair because n...

Re: Portsmouth-Bilbao: last chance not to fly

I have used the Bilbao ferry in the past but from what P&O say the ship is at the end of its life. I am going to Spain again this summer and booked Brittany Ferries to Santander because they have, at least, got their web booking act together now and allow two people to book bikes on at the same ...

Sadjack
Give me a proper email address and I will send you a word document with full details, prices, telephone numbers and milages. Unfortunately this forum would not let me post in that format - I tried but I'm not a wizard. Unless an online wizard can advise?

Re: Camping along the C2C and Reivers Way

Sadjack, I did it last year - Reivers first then followed by C2C. Camping was difficult and many of the listed ones were no longer available to campers (like Keilder Water) or closed altogether so we used an independant hostel one evening. Unfortunately I cannot immediately find the details of what ...

Re: Fundraising, grants, contracts etc.

John Catt seems to think that MG are well catered for because This seems to be confirmed by the response of groups, access to discretionary grants appears to serve its purpose where needed, only 48 groups claimed their allocation fee and groups currently hold £266,053 in balances. The link he provid...

Re: Touchscreen GPS with OS

Thank you CJ. I think you have just convinced me to continue to use paper maps for the time being and just worry about them getting blown in the wind and soggy wet. I like the idea of these devices but think they still have a way to go before they are any use for a cyle camping tour.

Re: Are we looking forward to being a membership charity?

TC I was at the Belfast AGM and for every motion the number of votes cast by proxy far outweighed the number of delegates present. This was, in part, the reason that procedures for subsequent meetings was discussed by individuals after the AGM as some felt that attendance in future could be a waste ...

Re: the nemisis of studded tyres

Si Your review is useful and I wish I had some here this year. However I suspect that either I or the tyres would perish before the next fall as good as this in Hampshire.(Its been 30 years) It was fun for the first two days when no traffic was about but more frightening now that more are using thei...

Re: Multigrip bars - where from

The folding version is very interesting and looked reasonably robust and would work They do look interesting and I though they might be good for something like my Bike Friday. However I think the traditional quill (where you have to slide the bar into it) would not work and I doubt there is enought...

Re: Are we looking forward to being a membership charity?

John Catt wrote :- I don't believe that members who left substantial legacies did so in order that members could maximise their personal benefits, but to allow the club to promote cycling, and particularly cycle touring, within the population as a whole. (bold emphasis mine) So at what level in the ...

I'd go along with the idea of splitting. Perhaps equipment reviews might be easier to find and have shorter threads.

Re: My hat comes off to the cyclist I saw this morning!

I live in East Hampshire which hit the national news today - 10 to 12 inches and motorways blocked. Looked too good not to ride and used mountain bike but found that where no-one had already passed had to carry the bike which is not really the point. Living here we only get a chance like this every ...

Re: Are we looking forward to being a membership charity?

To John Catt You said Just as an additional comment (and my own point of view) with proxy voting I would not allow amendments at meetings since the proxies cannot know what is proposed. Proposals would be accepted or rejected as published and if necessary another meeting called. That was my feeling ...
